Tuesday March 5

For many Europeans, it is paczki day.  Won't be able to get near a bakery today.

Thank you for picking up Remmy's slack, Rick.  A woo for that.

How one could not include Paczki day is baffling.  It's almost unforgivable.  Paczki day is also known as Fat Tuesday in Michigan.

https://www.polamjournal.com/Library/Holidays/paczki/paczki.html

I've had two REAL Paczkis today.  Made in the heavily Polish populated city of Hamtramck, MI.  Nothing quite like the Polish bakeries.

*eating two Paczkis means I consumed so many calories that I will need to run 50 miles to burn it off.

I'm going to have to see if John is up for driving out to West.  (Texas.  Not in West Texas, it's North of here, but there's all kinds of Eastern European immigrants there, including Poles.)  Oddly enough, he was just in Elm Motte the other day to pick up some lamb from the Butcher.

My late wife was from Poland.  She never made any fuss about paczki.  I think I was the one that asked her about them.  It’s possible they were not as popular in Silesia where she was from, but then she also wasn’t a huge dessert person either preferring pork, fish and vodka.

Naw!

Jules has my permission to have as many Oreos as she likes under one condition.  She has to twist the cookie apart and very slowly lick the white inside until until all of that is gone.

And then she has to send me a PM and tell me about her thoughts while her tongue was licking.

 ;D

The white chocolate cheese cake sounds pretty tempting.

Sunday March 10

Return of Daylight Savings (Second Sunday in March)

Just an FYI, and I'm not trying to be picky here, it's just that there was a story on our local news this morning about it.   It is Daylight Saving Time  (without the 's' at the end of saving)    I never knew this myself.

Monday March 11

    National Johnny Appleseed Day
    National Worship of Tools Day
    National Oatmeal Nut Waffles Day
    National Promposal Day
National Napping Day (Day after Daylight Saving Time begins)

Promposal? What the hell is a promposal? Type that into Merriam-Webster and the reply you get is: "The word you've entered isn't in the dictionary."

I need a nap.

Duly noted. That article was interesting. Below is one paragraph that I thought was funny.

On Nov. 4, 2007, Laurie Cirioli of North Carolina gave birth to twins — Peter at 1:32 a.m. and, 34 minutes later, to Allison. So Peter's the firstborn. Uh, no. Daylight Saving Time reverted to Standard Time at 2 a.m. Which means Allison was born at 1:06 a.m. So she's the alpha kid. Grist for sibling rivalry? Dad Jason Cirioli said at the time: "We'll let them work that out between themselves."

In other words, Peter was born first, but (officially) Allison is older by 26 minutes.

In high school I knew a set of identical twins who each had their own birthday. One popped out at 11:50 PM and the other twenty minutes later at 12:10 AM the next day.

Those are fun.

My father's childhood friends had a similar story.   One twin was born on Feb 28th at 11:55pm, the other was born on Feb 29th @ 12:10am.   Later in life, the twin born on the 29th, always claimed to be 4 times younger than his brother.  Even in his obituary, passing at 75, it listed his age at 18.  Most reading it might assume it was a typing mistake.  It was one final joke that his family thought he'd appreciate.
