In the Army, we would call that a "self-inflicted wound".  I know you love your phone, but can't you find a cheap laptop that would give you full access?  Even these steam powered Win 98 desktop machines at the shop give me everything (except chat.  It crashes them.)  Upgrading would give you all kinds of things (like knowing who the "Pervert of the Month" is)-RHL

Wow Gemini, considering how much you write here, I'm incredibly impressed that you do it all on a phone.  My thumbs hurt just thinking about it.

I have a question on the Karma system.

Why are people able to apply Karma to personal messages?  It seems rather odd, as it appeared to me the point of "Reason for changing the karma of this user" prompt was to let everyone know why it was applied, yet you cannot view the personal messages the Karma was applied to.

If this is a software issue, I understand.  If it is not, perhaps that part of the Karma system needs to be revisited.

I quite caring about the karmas when some idiot gave me a "............." as a reason for karma change. Meh.

If SMF has even half the coder community phpBB has, there should be a mod available for that somewhere. If not, I could consider looking into it (though it might take a while depending on how well the SMF code is organized and how modular their mods are).

Anyway, its generally best not to take the karma system too seriously.

Yes there has been an upgrade which has added more admin fame options, but not one I can find for it being added to pms, but hopefully I have changed it so if you do get any fame for a pm, why?, you will know who and why, but only you.

Apparently I was mistaken.   My apologies.

Personally, I think forums are better off without this system.

Especially when you see people like moderators, who should be objective, giving it out like candy. Unless it's some sort of pumishment lol

But I guess everyone always knows the truth about members anyway, so it doesnt really matter.

IF your phone is capable, you can try appending ?nowap onto the end of the page URL here, and that might force your phone to render the forum in HTML (the way everyone with a computer sees it).

http://www.kristensboard.com/forums/index.php?nowap

That might work, probably not.

If you're seeing the forum with a white background, then it's in WAP mode (severely restricted function for dumb phones).  The Fame/Karma is a Javascript function, and it's up to the manufacturer of your phone whether they implement Javascript correctly, or at all.  I can't re-write the forum code to work with every oddball phone in existence, nor will I try.  I looked around once for an enhanced WAP version of the forum, and it's since disappeared and still wouldn't have worked with many of the added functions here.  There are severe limitations to WAP, which is designed to reduce the bandwidth needed by your phone and/or data plan.

Another way around it is to change the browser settings for your phone to identify itself as Internet Explorer (instead of whatever browser header string it's currently sending out).  That works with Blackberries; your mileage may vary.  Here's the 'fix' for Blackberries:

Browser > Menu Key > Options > Browser Configuration
Change your browser's identification from "BlackBerry" to Internet Explorer or FireFox

I have a Palm Pixie Plus phone, and the forum works fine.  I can't do CHAT from it 'cos the Pixie doesn't support Shockwave/Flash, but that's OK by me.

edit: by the way, if anyone wants to see what the forum looks like with a gutted phone, try one of the URLs below
http://www.kristensboard.com/forums/index.php?wap
http://www.kristensboard.com/forums/index.php?wap2
http://www.kristensboard.com/forums/index.php?imode

Yeah,  I'd upgrade my phone if I saw that crap.  The Internet would be mostly unusable with WAP or IMODE.

Hey, Rope, i do see KB's background as mostly white, but section divisions appear in a grey/blue and in a blue. When i'm viewing a thread, each post alternates between white background then dark grey.
