Looking through the first three pages, the only two non US related posts were by Americans, and attracted virtually no comments.

I'm not complaining, and I get that there's a lot of US people here, but is your country really that dysfunctional?

DISCLAIMER:  I've lived in the USA. I've lived in a number of countries. I'm an Australian, and I don't claim my country is perfect (we're going through a weird leadership struggle at the moment, for example).

Innocence passed me by.

I think the majority of members are Americans, and yes our political system is very polarized (aka disfunctional) at this moment in time.  Two-party systems like the America has are more prone to polarization. Other Democracies have a parlimentary system that I belive is more inclusive and representative of the actual populace.  It can also acomodate a multi-party system while the American system does not.

You're right: Since the majority of members are Americans, the majority of political posts are by Americans about America. It makes sense.

But I'm not sure how that makes us "dysfunctional."

And I've yet to meet an American who thinks this country is perfect...

It isn't just the majority of the political posts that are American  - it's virtually ALL of them!

"All of them" is a lot.   Dysfunctional in the sense that reading the constant back and forth over thread after thread is like watching a slow motion car crash.

People bitch about politics over here in Australia  - but we are a bit more two party than most, for whatever reason.

People in the UK bitch about being in the EU, leaving the EU, Brexit going wrong - that's a big deal!  Where are all the Brits, I wonder? I know there's a bunch of them at RavishU.

Thanks for replying anyway!

I usually refer to it as an endless ping pong match, but "a slow motion car crash" works well, too.

A judge I work with watches politics like a sporting match.

There was a post I read from an Austrailian saying he wishes they had Trump, and I posted about the abortion law being repealed in Ireland.

We used to get a fair amount of posts about Canada, but he's not around anymore.

Why not post something about Australia?  I think its great they have a sex party!

Pauline Hanson is Australia clone of Donald Thrump

One Nation is the only party planning for Australia’s future. Where the two major parties want to bring in 230,000+ immigrants per year—stealing Australian jobs and putting a strain on infrastructure—One Nation wants to introduce a zero net immigration plan. This plan will alleviate our already strained infrastructure and allow us the time to catch

As Australia approaches its 7th Prime Minister in 11 years, many Australians are wondering when we’ll get a Government that simply gets on with the job of running the country. Despite the distractions, One Nation kept busy for everyday Australians keeping the Government to account and continuing to push for lower immigration,

“Stay inside and lock your doors.” This was the message police gave to terrified residents in Melbourne as gangs of African youths brawled, destroyed public property and attacked police. Tell us again how Melbourne doesn’t have a problem with violent African gangs? From the Australian

ZERO NET IMMIGRATION The government is funding its budget by banking on Australia taking in millions immigrants. It’s nothing but a Ponzi scheme that will all come falling down if we don’t stop it. Our roads are failing, our cities are choking, our farmers face droughts and are struggling to supply the country with food […]

More and more countries across the globe are banning the burqa, including muslim nations. When parliament returns after the winter break, I’ll be pushing forward with legislation to have our federal parliament ban the burqa also. In the past week, the Dutch have finally passed laws banning the burqa which will build greater social cohession,

A SEX PARTY???

Well, fuck, if they started up that party here they'd win every election.

Though I disagree with their pro-anal policy.

The Reason Party is an Australian political party founded in 2009 as the Australian Sex Party. It changed its name in 2017 to the Reason Party. The Australian Sex Party was initially founded in response to concerns over the increasing influence of religion in Australian politics, and the proposed introduction of an internet filter and was born out of an adult-industry lobby group, the Eros Association. Its leader, Fiona Patten, was formerly the association's CEO. Patten describes the party as a "civil libertarian alternative". Patten is a veteran campaigner on issues such as censorship, equality, and discrimination. Patten was elected to the Victorian Legislative Council at the 2014 state election.

Oddly enough, most of the newsreels, and paper stories around the nineteens, and 40s were about Germany, too.

We dominate the Media.  We do, Lexus has commercials on Telemundo.  How many Mexicans buy Lexi?  All right, well the Japanese company (Toyota) has their commercials shot in Califonia, in Spanish, for the Mexican American market.

Uber Alles.

That's why, since you asked.

Except that Pauline Hanson has been around since the 90s and her Party gets little interest outside of her home State - and only about 15% of the vote even there.

The Dutch banned face coverings in late June in certain places. Not specifically the burka and the niqab - it just includes them.

We dominate the Media.

Dream on.

Almost every channel on British TV is either owned by American corporations, or broadcasts TV shows & movies made in the US or financed by US corporations. Heck, we even call them "movies" now, when we used to call them "films". Online, *all* our broadcast media is American (Netflix, Prime, YouTube, Facebook, Spotify, excepting only BBC iPlayer).

"We [the US] dominate the media" is an understatement.

News about what happens in US politics is covered because it often effcts the rest of the world.  But if you live outside the country the news coverage is not exclusively about the US.

I often watch Telemundo for an alternative emphasis on the news.  I'll also check the different country issues of the BBC website for different reportings, and the US stuff is barely mentioned there unless it is expected to have an impact in other places on the globe.

The Christian Science Monitor also has excellent reporting that is not US-centric.

Isn't that because all the Pay TV in the UK is one company - Sky?   Which is owned by Murdoch, I assume.
