This morning Alexa was playing ,60s golf music for me. The second song played was Arlo Guthrie's long version of Alice's Restaurant. It's a little over 20 minutes long. A radio station here used to play it every Thanksgiving as that's when the song takes place. It's a fun listen.
I've listened to Alice's Restaurant at least once every year since I was in college and it still cracks me up every time. It's essentially a protest song about the draft during the Vietnam War that uses humor to make a point. Just thinking about the Group W bench is bringing a smile to my face as I type this. "And they all slid away from me on the bench."
Another Arlo classic is called,
The Last Guy. When people point out that there's always someone who has it worse than you, Arlo wants to know, "But what about the Last Guy?"
