As Lois and Toe said, there are a lot of little things that we need to iron out.
We'll be working on a lot of different things.
**update** I added the instructions below for how to change a theme. I've since removed those instructions. For right now, I suggest that you DO NOT change the theme. There might be some compatibility issues. Just stick with what we've got for right now and let us work through some things.

I’m sad we aren’t changing the look even more dramatically, for the *next* 11 years.
And yes, the fonts are too small. Lol. Instead of moving closer to the screen and squinting, hit CTRL++ (that's a plus sign) a few times. This will increase the zoom level in most browsers and some programs.

Several improvements just since yesterday. The layout is cleaner with a larger font that is easier to read.
You can award Boo or Woo, without being asked for a reason but 'View Karma' is still MIA so if you get either, you can't tell who it was from.
The News section with the Happy New Year pic appears on every page I've visited instead of just the Home page.
I haven't found two links that used to be on the top of the home page, 'Show new posts since last login' and 'Show new replies to your posts'.
Also, I no longer see how many days I've wasted spent logged into this fascinating microcosm of internet intelligence. ^-^
Overall I think the upgrade will be an improvement once some bugs have been worked out.

Yep, we're aware. But thank you for mentioning. These were my favorite links. I'm trying to get these back to the page. I'm hoping it is as simple as a link, because I can then add it to the new menu bar I created in the top of the NEWS section (where we congrat POY and WriterOfYear)
The NEWS is showing up on every page. I'm pretty sure I know how to fix it in the PHP code, but have to proceed cautiously. Not a major concern right now but it is on the list
One thing we have noticed is that this theme loads new pages incredibly fast compared to the old one.

In order to stop the bot invasion, I've added another step of verification for new signups. Not sure how well it works yet. If we get bots, it didn't work. If we don't get bots, yay. :)
Please REPORT the post if you see any. Two quick clicks and we blast them and their posts off the board. For a few hours yesterday, the site appeared to be in pretty good condition, except for the small font and karma issues. But avatars showed, the header was correct, and the new post and replies links showed correctly. The pages had a rather gray look to them. So I don’t know who flipped what, but we lost a lot of that functionality yesterday afternoon. Might want to retrace your steps.

The upgrade was necessary because it was out of date with the current version of MY SQL and other software provided by all webhosts. That made the forum a ticking time bomb, possibly one step away from a complete crash when the server software updated once again.
I'd been urging RF to complete the upgrade before he left, but he did not undertake the task. That's why you got what you've got. We'd be happy to accept help from any member who steps up.

Foxi alerted me to an issue that I confirmed. When you login, you will be logged out after one hour (60 minutes).
Quick fix (hopefully), when you login, there is a box that says how many minutes to stay logged in. Change it from 60 to 6000.
Additioanlly, there is a box that says "Always Stay Logged In" Click that.
Not sure if either fix will work yet. I don't have an hour to test it right now.

I’ll say. I just went to the sexy gifs thread. Loaded 20 gifs in two seconds. That used to be a loooooong wait.
The stats page doesn’t have the drop down menu to tailor stats reports to specific dates. Won’t be able to do damn lies and statistics until that is fixed.

Some links that used to be present all the time are now hidden in 'mouse over' menus.
For instance, I didn't know where the 'COMPOSE NEW MESSAGE' link was. Well, if you pass your mouse over the Messages in the upper right, it gives you the following. Just click one.

I’d been wondering about that. I have zero knowledge about such things, but I do know one person that does that said they believed things were getting a bit ‘untenable’ (my word) at RU, and I extrapolated that to include here. My way of thinking about it was concern that all of RF’s duct tape and bailing twine was going to give way some day soon.
It’s good to hear there was a plan for that.

Rope spent a lot of his time fixing problems and hours keeping this place germ free. Super Glue or duct tape worked. I wager he does not miss the "pay" he gave up.

The only problem I've encountered so far is that sometimes two posts look like they're blending together.
For example, the line separating Jed's and staci's posts is above the 'Report to moderator' and 'logged' buttons for Jed's post. Then staci's avatar and profile info is slightly offset to the right of Jule's and Jed's avatars and info, and there is a large blank space to the right of that. Then there is a line below staci's avatar/profile/blank space with the actual message.

Like anything new or revised, it will take time to get comfortable with the new image. Except for the first day of the rollout, everything seems to be working good.

I do notice a big difference between the Android version and the PC. Android buttons aren't labeled, so I just have to use trial and error to get where I want to go.

For sure we'll keep HOME and UNREAD in there. We'll discuss what else on the mod board. I just wanted to make you aware of it. I like it because when viewing a forum like this, you are usually reading the last post in a thread. Just look a smidge further down and you've got your next link option.

Quite like the blue/black design but could the text be a bit larger? Also, should I go on limiting image widths to 630 even though we now have this widescreen theme?
Edit: Just discovered that width=620 height=403 seems to be the default.

This new theme is dramatically more visually pleasing and adaptible to modern displays. Both on my phone and monitor it is a significant improvement. There are still outstanding issues with the layout, but it actually feels like a big upgrade now.
I agree. This feels much more user friendly. Enjoy the buttons and drop down menus. It will take a while to fully acclimate, but hope everyone takes the time to get familiar with it.

Like ODK, I'm (patiently) waiting for the View Karma command to work.

Yes, I noticed that also. I doubt I will be able to find a solution for that. I'm too far removed from my days of altering style sheets and such. In the old days I could tell some co-workers, "fix that", and it would be done.
On Monday I hope to get into the css and find a solution for larger font in posts.

This theme is what they call "responsive" that adapts to smart phone use. As for the text, it seems small to me.

I do every thing on my phone, or on my tablet and neither one was working so well here since the upgrade. I was looking around, and looking around and I couldnt see where to give Woo's, so I did something drastic... I turned my phone landscape and boom. The world opened up to me :facepalm:

I figured outtge same thing as you, Sheila, a few days ago. I'm used to keeping my phone in Portrait mode so it's kind of weird using it in landscape. At least the keyboard is larger this way. :emot_thumbsup: :emot_thumbsup: :emot_thumbsup:

That seems to be the case for me with every posted photo. I just tap my iPhone a second time to get the proper aspect ratio.

That's a problem with 'responsive themes'. They try to adjust to your mobile device, and don't always get it right the first time.
I didn't have any issues with Android phone and tablet. I'm guessing the author of the theme doesn't have an iPhone. <oops>

Someone else PM'd me on this. I figured guests wouldn't find it down there, so I left it in the NEWS ANNONCEMENT banner at the top.
I'm going to try and recreate that "POPULAR LINKS" and have it listed toward the top of the page also. But being out of touch with Style Sheets for so many years, I have to proceed carefully. I need to experiment when I have enough time to do so. Probably not anytime real soon. :) Maybe next week-ish.

Something else we seem to have lost... the ability to copy a link to a specific reply in any given thread.
As nearly as I can tell, the only links that can be copied to the clipboard now are to 1) the top of any given page of a thread, and 2) the very latest post. With some threads of over 100 pages, that means a lot of replies can't be specified with a clickable link.
I didn't use the feature often, but it was nice to be able to do that when it was still possible.

Edit: I found a work around that still lets you link to a specific reply, although it's not as easy as before. I clicked 'Quote' on this reply (which is #94 in the thread), then 'Preview' which then showed a clickable link where it says 'Quote from...' (right above a large quotation mark). Then I right-clicked on that link and chose 'Copy Link Location'.
I pasted the Link Location from the clipboard into a hyperlink that goes directly to Reply #94 (https://www.kristensboard.com/forums/index.php?topic=73409.msg594051#msg594051) even though it's not at the top of a page.

Is there a new method for imbedding videos? I tried the former way with a Cloris Leachman clip and only got the URL. It still opens the link, but ya know it's not the same. :facepalm:

I may have mis-remembered this, but wasn't there a time limit imposed on being able to modify a post. I have just discovered that I was allowed to modify a post that is two years old.

There was a 24 hour limit after posting to modify it. In 2019, we lifted that restriction. You can now change any post you have ever made on the forum.

Things got messy in there a couple of weeks ago. We haven't used it in a while. We have to have some deep cleaning done. We hired a crew. They showed up, but when they looked inside, they turned around and walked right back out. We haven't been able to find someone else to clean it. If you happen to notice the 'Out of Order' sign hanging on the door knob, that's why.

I just added a shortcut to the very very bottom of the page in the "Popular KB Pages" section, it's just easier to find. And thank you Toe, because I didn't see it until you pointed it out. I removed the 'profile' and '1408' links that were there previously. I have room for one more link. Suggestions?

As I saw others state, my phone makes the girls tall and the Shiela ‘One for me’ type pics more intimidating than usual. I suppose we’re stuck with that.

Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes it will open another page and take you to where it was linked from.

And I discovered when you click on a picture on your computer, it will enlarge to it's original size.
The forum software automatically shrinks photos to fit on the page properly. It is maxed out at 610px. Also, if the person that posts it puts in a width (ie width=310) as many of us do for numerous reason, when you can click the image it will enlarge.

I do find the smileys silly and quite lewd, but I hesitate to use them. Also the emojis just seem more accessible to me. I have no problem doing something like this.

If you try and edit a post that has emojis in it, they come out all weird.
Tried making that game, and when I edited my post it changed. Even when I try to change it back it stayed all messed up

I don’t like the way that the new platform imports formatting from cut and pasted. Background colors, fonts, style and size, all come out completely screwed up. Sometimes I just delete and dictate the quote verbatim using the microphone app. Very inconvenient. Also, it doesn’t read my html code. And I can’t repost videos, only links.

I figured it out. I had put an emoji in the title and had to delete it for the others to work. Dont know what they all change to begin with

You may have noticed an annoying trait of our new platform to transfer *all* formatting associated with text cut and pasted here by you from another web location. Here’s a quick work around:
Before you cut and paste your copy into a post, cut and paste it into a phone message. Don’t hit send. Then cut and paste that into a phone note. Then cut and paste that back into a phone message. This will strip all of the font, size, color, and background, from your text. Then paste that into your post. And it will come out clean.
