My love is like a ship that sails along
The muddy waters of our murky earth;
I try to navigate to a safe berth,
Yet all around the treacherous currents strong
Threaten my tiny boat: of little worth
The cargo in it; still, I shall be strong,
And strive to find a passage free among
The shallows, shoals and rocks of my heart's berth.
I'll not be shattered on the cliffs that loom
Sheer-faced, against me; nor shall I be driven
Off my clear course, however I am riven
By turbulent feelings nurtured in my womb,
Nor let myself be shivered: I'll be whole;
I swear it on my life and heart and soul.
