Title: Screw Columbus... It's Indigenous Americans Day
Post by: msslave on October 11, 2021, 06:24:01 PM
With eleven tribal nations in Minnesota, it was a no brainer for our Governor to declare today Indigenous Americans Day.

Italian Americans are steaming in some areas about loosing their hero, Christopher Columbus. Yeah, he was Italian, but Spain picked up the tab for the trip. Oh, and he was to find a way to the east, so failed there.

Meanwhile Native Americans had their land stolen. Treaties they signed were all broken and ended up being herded unto reservations.

It's past time they get the honor and recognition that's so deserved.

One Minnesota company is finally trying to do something. For years I've enjoyed the comfort of a local company, Minnetonka Moccasins. I've also seen their footwear all over the country, especially in tourist areas.

Some time back they were accused of adopting Native American culture by making and selling moccasins. I hadn't noticed, but a few years ago they took moccasin off their logo. Today they issued a formal apology to Native Americans. Also they've hired a Native American as a reconciliation advisor.

I do hope other companies will soon follow suit.

WOO. msslave. Slowly, America is waking up. Maybe we should have an Immigrant Day to honor all nationalities who came here. But do we need more holidays?
