They're not the best "absorber"- generally needs soaking 2-3 days at least to accomplish much...   
Myself I prefer rum cake/Rum Balls. Now there's an absorber...
Coworker brought a batch of those in during one party/potluck..
She overdid them a bit and it only took a few before I was feelin' it  ;D
