The TV stations warn the bridges and overpasses with ice are dangerous. So Texas motorists apply their brakes hard when they approach them, then back to 60 or 65 if they make it. Many many wrecks and accidents today. A lawyers dream.

We live in a state where snow and ice is the norm. So you'd think people would take care and caution when driving.

Wrong!!! The fools out there now think they can zoom around as usual. It's common that any storm of a few inches will resort in 300-500 accidents.

It got below freezing today. So everyone went home. Because you know. Freezing.

I lived in Minneapolis Minnesota for 3 1/2 years. It would be 40° below zero at least once a year (-40° F & C), 60 inches or more of snow at least once a year. And I *never* remember the office being closed because it was cold outside. It’s not about the weather, it’s about people not wanting to work. “Let’s all stay home and have hot cocoa today, because, you know, weather.” LOL.

I am the only person who went to the office today. The. Only. Person.

Snow and sleet all night. Listening to trees snap this morning. The power is off at the office, no computers or heater. Of course, our GOP leaders did absolutely nothing after Snowpocalypse 2021. Our power grid remains Third World quality. Encouraging people to use less energy, because it was unforeseeable there would be increased demand with cold weather.

Was watching a YouTube video of people attempting to drive on the ice covered streets and roads of Dallas, from the ice storm they received yesterday. Does the city and county use salt spreaders and/or plows? Ice storms are terrible.

I was watching and thought "rookies"

But, ice is a different matter. I heard one mention that there is no salt there and the have been using dirt and sand.

We get sand on the back roads because the main roads get salt. So all around my dads house is sand and stone all over the roads. It doesnt help much bit it's better than nothing.

Ivey roads are a guarentee every year. Even when its snow, after the plows go through, and the sun hits the roads, it eventually melts and freezes into an ice rink.

All jokes aside, it must be a nightmare for those not used to it. There are so many around here who are used to it, but still end up in a ditch or worse. Hell last year I stopped at a stop sign and slid sideways into the other side of the road. Not everything can be controlled by caution and safety. Sometimes shit happens.

FYI, in case I have never said it before, I love my heated seats.

Ice is ice no matter if you're in Texas or in Minnesota. I lived in both places (TX for 26 yrs and MN for 34 yrs). It doesn't matter one iota. Nobody can drive on ice safely. Salt is only effective when temps are above 10° or 15°.

Also, it doesn't matter what political party is in charge no matter how hard one wishes it to be.  Some have to make everything political.

Ice sucks. Basically the only way to drive on ice is studs or chain. We get snow and ice here typically November til March. Sometimes barely any sometimes lots. I still feel the first snow of the season people forget how to drive in it and there's tons of accidents

Right now it's 18 with a wind chill factor of zero.

Tomorrow morning at sunrise it will be 8.

I think I'll skip my usual Saturday morning run...

The Pennybacker Bridge over Lake Austin. This is what we consider cold in Texas.

Yesterday here in central MN, it was -18° at 6am and got to a blistering 0°. Today we get some global warming and rise to 32°.  ;D

We don't complain about the temps much up here because it's the norm this time of year.
