71° this morning... going all the way to 92° this afternoon.  We’ve been lucky this year.

37C earlier, now the rain is bouncing high off the road and the lightning is almost continuous.

Pretty cool for central Texas in July.  I mean, it's hot, and muggy, but not Life Threatening.  I can actually walk to the bodega, and back without having to cross the street back and forth to the shade.  Lots of pecan trees in this neighborhood, but not enough to cover all the sidewalks.

I guess that heat wave up the eastern seaboard took some of our regularly scheduled suffering?  I'm not complaining.

Local media are reporting over 5,000 lighting strikes an hour...

That's a lot of strikes.  Ever seen a storm like it before?

It was 58° (14°C) here this morning.  New record low for July.  The average low temperature for today is 74° (23°C).  Enjoying dryer cooler air.

We normally get one or two a year (the strikes data is a new thing from the Met Office here), but we've just had three big ones in two weeks, thanks to a huge plume of (for us) massively hot air. We hit all-time record highs this week, but it's 19C as I type, when this time yesterday it was 30C, and has hit 37C in my area.

I think the heatwave has broken.

Flash Flood warnings.   All of our cell phones just blew up with warning bells from the National Weather Service.   Scared the berjeezus out of me.

It's coming down hard right now.  Like turning the music up.

Warning of 3-4" from now to 9am tomorrow.

That's a whole lot of rain.  Be careful out there!

We've been getting rain every week or so.  Just enough to cool us down from 104 to 98F for a bit, then it's just hot and soggy.

Looks like a completely average Hill Country summer.

For the past three hours it has been the noisiest (thunder) and most lightning and also very heavy downpours, that I have seen in some time come through. Rain was needed, though.

Will be heading your way, MJ.

Got home an hour ago.   It looks like a tornado went through our backyard.   All 5 umbrella's w/stands or tables were on their sides.   Tramploline flipped.   One table in the pool.
It hit us when we were still at the cottage.

Hurricaine heading towards Florida this weekend.  If you are there, take care and be safe!

Yes, I agree. 70 degrees at noon in August is not my idea of summer. But I know how to warm you up..... 8)

We had a storm blow through this afternoon with little warning.  Up to hours beforehand they were still quoting 0% chance for rain today.  4 or 5 significant cells had strong rotation that could have been tornadic, but nothing touched down as far as I can tell from the newsies.

Temp went from 94F to 76F in just a handful of minutes.  Nice (but slow) drive home.

-----------------------------

edit, 12 hours later: the outflow boundary just blew by, and various weather sites are showing 25% chance for rain.  I'm thinking it's a bit higher than that.   That uppermost red icon (strong rotation indicative of a tornado) might hit my area in about 20 minutes.  The one near Mesquite is headed pretty much due South, no threat to me.

Good news for the Florida folks.  Hurricaine Dorian is swerving north.  I hope it just goes back out to sea!
