Could there ever be a perfect world? If every individual is given the right to believe and live their life however they seem fit.. The perfect world could never exist. And if I asked all of you to describe me the perfect world, I would not get two of the exact same answers. What's perfect?

One person's perfect is another person's hell. An impossible conundrum. Humans are so diverse and unpredictable, how societies are run varies across the globe. What should we aspire to? A world that is fairer, one where hunger isn't a political tool, where health isn't for sale. Of course some lust for higher things, personal wealth, power over others, a house on the hill surrounded by barbed wire and armed guards, its all a matter of taste.

I could not agree more. I guess the better question is what really are we trying accomplish as the Human race.

I'm not so sure that's a question that can be answered, there were no instructions,we've made it up as we go along. Things work out, things don't, do we learn? Sometimes, but there is still hunger, war, poverty, environmental issues, homelessness etc.

Can you as an individual make a difference?

Not everyone has the same aspirations or goals. There will always be someone who wants the same thing but done in a different way. Sometimes it seems the journey is every bit as important as the outcome.

Creating a perfect world. What a load of cuck-brained bonkers ridiculously naive bullcrap is this?

Creating a perfect world has been tried. Many times. It will continue to be tried, many times. Because people are inherently stupid. Who's tried it? Marx (who wrote about it, but did nothing), Lenin, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao, Mugabe, Chavez, Hitler, Franco, Qutb (who only wrote about it), Khomeni, FDR, Ataturk, LBJ, Castro, the Anabaptists of Munster....the list goes on

This is a common delusion. Anyone who sincerely believes in this notion of a perfect society should not be trusted to pour piss out of a boot, even if the instructions are on the sole.

You cannot make a perfect society until you have perfect people. People are inherently imperfect, that's a fact. And that is the huge stumbling block to this goal. People are stupid, and stubborn and they resist being told what to do by others 'who only have their best interest in mind' in abandoning everything known in favour of a 'better, brighter' future.

That is what happens with projects to build model societies in other people's countries. The cleansing campaigns are rarely premeditated. It is only when the people who live on the land refuse to abandon their past that the dream of the clean slate morphs into its doppelgänger, the scorched earth—only then that the dream of total creation morphs into a campaign of total destruction.
Naomi Wolf, The Shock Doctrine. Of course she was talking about Iraq. But she could easily have been talking about many other societies in the last hundred years. The Soviets had 70 years of Scientific Socialism to try and build better people. But one of the causes of the Soviet collapse was the conflict between human nature and 'perfect theory'

It's an idea espoused cynically by evil bastards who want power, and sincerely by people with the intellectual capacity of a turnip. Charitably, I'm hoping that you're a Baldrick

There is no such thing as "perfect".
There "is" the idea of perfection or in the case of science "as close to perfect" as possible.
Now to the original thread....As was stated "a perfect world for one is a perfect hell for another". Unless you are on your own planet alone, you will not have a perfect world. Even then the person who creates a "perfect" world truely does not, because his or her tastes are constantly changing, so what was perfect on Monday, might be completely wrong on Friday and changed on Saturday. Perfection is what you make of it, but more importantly, what you make of it within society. (of course, if you lock yourself in your house and never come out, then within that house you might have created a perfect world, but even thats extremely doubtful).
Just my take on whats perfect.
Love,
Liz

It's very simple.

A perfect world is where it functions as I see fit, to my standards and expectations, and screw you other unreasonable heathens.

There are three kinds of people in the world. Those who can count, and those who can't.

Katie, you are allowed into my perfect world. Liz can join us but only if she agrees to join me in the perfect hayloft.  8)

Just perhaps...

if you strive for perfection within,
and if you are fortunate,
and one other is encouraged by your example
and seeks Their Version of perfection,
a perfect world may come about.

if you look for perfection in others,
and see their shortcomings'
and focus on the obvious futility of this pathway,
I guarantee you,
it will never happen.

how simple can it get?

We came up with a monetary system to help stave off things like just killing someone for what they have. Kind of like Lions and Hyenas fighting over a carcass. Someone had the bright idea that if you traded something for something nobody felt jilted.

We invented currency because bartering is a pain in the ass. It was just a way of regulating what things are worth. The problem as it seems to me is that many people have forgotten that money is only a means of acquiring things with real tangible value while money itself is worthless. Accumulated wealth amounts to a complete waste of resources.

I'll trade you two perfectly good Pizza's for a 1973 Land Rover 110.
That work for you?

Found a highly apropos quote. Took me ages to find it, my Google-fu must have been off

"Personally, I’m interested in keeping other people from building Utopia, because the more you believe you can create heaven on earth the more likely you are to set up guillotines in the public square to hasten the process." - James Lileks
