Filed my tax return. I owed $6.

Sadly, TurboTax charged me $58 to do the return. But here is the secret to avoiding problems with the IRS… *Always* file when everyone else is filing. Try to avoid the extension. Try to avoid a lot of deductions. Anything that would raise a flag... You file your tax return, when tens of millions of other people are doing the same thing, and you’ll slide right through. At least that’s the theory that’s worked for me all these years.

Filed our taxes yesterday.

Also, I weighed myself for the first time in 2 weeks.  Very happy with results.

I completely forgot Taxes are due in the next couple days. Thankfully I had mine done by Feb 1st.

I have been invited to a family get together with Allan's extended family. His uncle has a cabin up nort' and they have a spring cleaning party. I'm feeling some anxiety about meeting them ass, but his mother "demands" I go. I asked if he let them know I work weekends think it may be my way out, but he said it's pretty much a week long thing. His uncle spends the entire last week of April at the cabin cleaning and whatever, and people will just show up and whatever. So there is a chance that I may only meet his uncle or I could show up and his entire clan could be there having a massive cleaning and BBQ thing.

Wife’s doing our taxes today. Going to be an ugly time at our house. First time in a long time I’m glad I’m working.

We celebrated the boys birthday’s last night. Hell of a turn out. Probably over 30 people at one time. We had 5 tables for our group. Lots were coming and going as the night went on. I got there about 4:30 and stayed till 11:30. If I didn’t have to work this morning I probably would have stayed. Hard to stay out when you know the alarms going off at 5am. But it was so nice to have everyone get together and see so many of their friends show up and celebrate with us

Things seem to be moving along quickly.  Kinda like a snow ball going down hill. I'm happy for you and I know you'll charm other members of the clan as you did mom and dad.

Just flash that wonderful Shiela smile and watch the alcohol consumption...ya don't wanna flash anything else.

I'd imagine half of Allan's family would get down on one knee and propose right then and there  :emot_laughing:

Has the USA ever considered a Paye As You Earn system like the UK one?  It seems much simpler for regular earners, only gets really complicated if you have lots of investment income or are self-employed.

Princess, would you like to see it light up and hum when I wave it about

We could have a simpler system, but tax preparers like HR Block actively lobby Congress to keep it the way it is

Not only that, but the government can easily figure out what you've made and where, and then do it themselves in a few weeks, but then they wont catch you with a mistake and charge fees and penalties.

I think the main complaint with a pay-as-you go, or national sales tax, system is that the poor pay a disproportionately high tax rate. That’s true even with the current system, which favors the wealthy. I’m not sure they’ll ever figure out an equitable tax scheme. It’s an oxymoron anyway.

The fire tonite made my day. But the thoughts of tomorrow are making me pretty happy also. Wife is going out around 10 am and won’t be back till after sunset. The boys are going to a concert in the evening. But… their friend invited the three of us tk a darty. A day time party. I was asked to come along with them. At first it was a thanks but no. With the wife being gone all day I’m thinking I might go. I’ll take my half a bottle of Remus bourbon to drink and go have a good time.

The missus and I had dinner at a sit-down restaurant for the first time since the pandemic started. Talk about sticker shock.

Aside from that, it was very enjoyable. Nice to have the food hot when it was brought to the table. I can't say the same about either takeout or delivery.

Welcome back to dining out Purple.

I guess we're old and set in our ways. Once business was allowed to reopen after the shut down we went back to dining out. It was a gradual change to normal.

We enjoyed being out and appreciated the precautions being taken. In addition to enjoying eating out, I felt I was doing a small part in helping these business keep going.

I’m excited for you Bob.

My son has an academic honors ceremony at the University this afternoon. It is Easter weekend in the Orthodox church, so there will be midnight services tonight. First time in history I won’t be able to drink vodka shots with the priests afterwards.

Oh, I am going. That’s what made my day today. And I get to sit with his lovely girlfriend. An added bonus.

Ah! A bit slow on my part. It's the drinking you're skipping. You can always sit with the priests and sip on a Coke. I'd recommend another sober partner tho'.
