I’ve played an online game called Match 3 Palace & Puzzles for about a year. It is very immersive in many aspects, and has a very loyal fan base. We all know each other, so there is a social aspect also, with chat boards, Discords, and alliances.
The Chinese company that owns it, ONEMT, has been slowly stopping technical support and development on the site. We saw the handwriting on the wall, but this morning everyone got a 60 day warning that the site is being shut down. Lots of unhappy people.
The monetization (and politicization) of the Internet has ruined so much of its initial promise. I miss the old days of BBS and Usenet groups. And everything was free.
