Many years ago I was tasked with interviewing a high school football coach whose team had lost by a similar score. I had to smile at his remarks.

"They're bigger than we are. They're stronger than we are. They're faster than we are. I couldn't tell for sure because they had helmets on, but they were probably better looking than we are!"

I happened to notice that eight of the top 10 teams have at least an 89% chance of winning this weekend.

The two that don't are:

#4 TCU against unranked Baylor. TCU is given a 51% chance to win.

#10 Utah against #12 Oregon. Utah is given a 52% chance to win.

Ten versus twelve makes sense, but the unbeaten #4 team against an unranked opponent? I can't help but wonder how they come up with these numbers.

TCU is playing the Baptists in Waco. Baylor has a long tradition of being a late season spoiler. They’ve derailed Texas a few times in Waco. Must be all those Baptist prayers. Baylor has the highest rate of unplanned pregnancies and abortion in the Big 12. Its football team had the highest rate of rape at one point. Proving again that hypocrisy knows no bounds.

In 2021, No. 4 and undefeated Oklahoma, at 9-0, went to Waco and lost to 18th-ranked Baylor (7-2). McLane Stadium is a hex.

Texas up 31 - 0 over Kansas at the half. We’re going to have to work really hard to blow a 31 point lead in the second half. I’m not saying we are incapable of it, but it will require some special effort on the part of Sark and Ewers.

AP Top 25 poll: Clemson jumps Alabama, Tennessee plummets in updated college football rankings

Clemson rose two spots, jumping Alabama, for No. 7 in the new AP Top 25 poll released Sunday as the Tigers quietly lurk in the background of the race for College Football Playoff bids. Though the Tigers do not have a true marquee win on their resume, they are now 10-1 with games against quality foes South Carolina and North Carolina in the ACC Championship Game remaining before the four-team CFP field is announced on Dec. 4.

The Tigers crushed Miami 40-10 on Saturday behind a dominant effort from their defense and benefitted from Tennessee's surprising 63-38 loss at South Carolina. The Volunteers dropped from No. 5 to No. 9 because of the defeat. Tennessee's loss also allowed USC to jump two spots to No. 5 after the Trojans beat crosstown rival UCLA 48-45.

Among the other big winners in Sunday's new AP poll were Oregon, which rose two spots to No. 10 after beating Utah and Notre Dame, which vaulted up five spots to No. 13 following a 44-0 win over Boston College.

No. 15 Kansas State and No. 16 Florida State rose four spots each after wins Saturday.

North Carolina dropped five spots to No. 18 following a surprising loss to Georgia Tech and Ole Miss dropped six spots to No. 20 after losing at Arkansas.

I first noticed Michigan in the movie The Big Chill (1983). The protagonists were all UM alumnae, and someone commented while watching the game “we usually wait until the fourth quarter to fall apart.” That game, Michigan vs. Michigan State, is now known as “The Big Chill Game.”

I have a couple of Buckeye friends and they are all insufferable. OSU is just about as horrible as Alabama.

SEC football schedules by divisions will be eliminated when Texas, Oklahoma join in 2025. GREENVILLE - Southeastern Conference commissioner Greg Sankey said Thursday that SEC football plans to eliminate its two-division structure for scheduling once Texas and Oklahoma join the conference on July 1, 2025.

According to radio host Marc Ryan of 97.7 The Fan Upstate, the SEC is moving away from the current setup of two divisions as well as the common proposal of four team pods once the SEC expands to 16 members with the addition of Texas and Oklahoma.

The pod system was seen as the most common sense way to preserve traditional rivalries and ensure an even rotation of opponents - as schools were grouped into four-team pods, they would play the other members of their pod every season as well as two teams each from the other three pods, on a rotating basis, ensuring that you had one home and one away matchup versus every team over a four-year period. Changing to one division will require a manual schedule, to ensure that every team rotates through the rest of the conference regularly.

Saturday confirmed times have changed: Michigan 45, Ohio State 23, in front of about 107,000 mostly infuriated Midwesterners at the Horseshoe in Columbus. In an all-unbeaten clash, Michigan looked out of its element in the first quarter but gradually gained steam. By the closing ticks of the clock, it was the Buckeyes who were melting down.

This one made two wins in a row for Michigan in the only game that matters. It was a different story than in 2021, when Michigan came out with a particular agenda and imposed its will in a uniformed fashion all afternoon. But it seemed possible that was a one-year anomaly, and Ohio State would show up on Saturday having adjusted its plan and gotten itself into a position to nuke the Wolverines out of the College Football Playoff. Instead, Michigan spent the afternoon doing what Ohio State has spent most of the last 20 years doing to Michigan: squeezing the will to live out of its rival, and quite possibly killing its national championship dreams in the process.

Forty percent of the top 10 lost Saturday, and two of the games weren't even close. Congrats to Michigan, South Carolina, Texas A&M and Oregon State.

It will be interesting to see where Ohio State ends up in the poll. I have a feeling there will be a lot of unhappy people when the four semi-finalists are chosen.

So! #10 Kansas State beat #3 (and previously undefeated) TCU in OT. Kansas State takes the Big 12 championship. Now it gets interesting for the college playoffs. Number three TCU lost, and number four USC lost. So at a minimum that means Ohio State is back in the playoffs. The only question now being does #6 Alabama leapfrog TCU? Alabama has two losses. TCU has one. But TCU lost on the final game of the season, which has to play on the committee’s mind. In addition, Alabama has a fan base of 5.3 million people. TCU‘s fan base is estimated to be 0.8 million. And while the playoff is about skills and abilities and not money (LOL), let’s get real. It’s always about money.

I’m predicting Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, and Alabama.  Big 10 and SEC showing why they are the kings of the Power Five conferences.

Do we really want to see a Michigan-Ohio State rematch?

I'd hate to see Alabama (with two losses) jump over TCU (with one loss), even though TCU's loss was in their conference championship game. It's not like TCU was blown out of the game.

Personally I'd leave the top three where they are now and move Ohio State (who did get blown out in their only loss) up to #4, but that's probably not going to happen.

It will be interesting to see what the committee comes up with. One thing for sure, there will be people who are pissed off that [school name] didn't get in.
