The Shut-in by James Patterson.

I can buy the rare disease that keeps the heroine confined to her apartment, and the drone technology that allows her to 'see' the outside world.

After that it breaks down rather badly. The plot relies on things that stretch credulity to the breaking point. If you can get past that, it's a well written story and quite enjoyable.

The Havoc Machine by Steven Harper, the 4th novel of The Clockwork Empire




It's pretty good... I started the series backwards, but that's OK 'cos this one is a standalone novel of the 4.  I read the first half in the jury selection waiting room, and I'm finishing it this evening.

Girl Most Likely... by Max Allan Collins... A bit of a disappointment... I'm thinking of ditching that in favour of my next read I found on Amazon... Colette by Abigail Summer... It's romantic transgender fiction … set in Guernsey (Channel Isles). Looking forward to reading that one...

A suspense novel called Every Secret Thing by Laura Lippman, best known for her series featuring Baltimore PI Tess Monaghan. This is a standalone book published in 2003.

The prologue grabbed my attention as it described an event that had taken place seven years ago.

Then it's back to the present day and more questions as she describes the events taking place in the lives of the central characters. I'm enjoying it immensely so far.

May 3 is National Paranormal Day and that is the perfect intro to the book I just started. It's called On Borrowed Time and was written by David Rosenfelt.

It's an audio book and the first half hour was mundane but interesting as the main character described a little about his life, how he met his girlfriend, and a visit to her parents' house where he proposes to her.

The next half hour got very strange very quickly. There are five more CDs and I can't wait to listen to the rest of it.

** Edit: Having finished the book, please note that there are no paranormal or supernatural events in the story. It's a super-villain conspiracy thriller.

It is a good well written story and I enjoyed it, but I didn't want lead fans of the supernatural astray. **

Been a long time since a book grabbed me by the neck from the first page and didn't let go.

Also been a long time since I've read a book where the Present Tense (which has become an obsession rather than a trend) is actually appropriate.

I bought my sons a number of literary classics.  With a few exceptions, they were not read.  So I’m working my way through a stack of books.  Which I enjoy.



I’ve had a list of books on the refrigerator for years.  My offer to the offspring is to read a book on the list, and provide an oral book report.  I’ll pay you $50.  One child has refused to read anything.  The other has read about 15.  I think I would have read them all.  In a month or less.

I read a book that was gifted to me during my hospital stay.  It was from lDans coworke that loves bourbon

It was interesting to read and but I already knew most of what was said.  But for the novice or the person just beginning to enjoy bourbon I think it would be a perfect book.   The main thing I took away from it was the nose and tasting notes a few tips.

Fifty Shades of Gray

I had to see what so many women love about it.  About a hundred pages in wondering who in the hell wrote this piece of shit.  I keep waiting for the writing to get better, for something to happen, but all I am left with is this feeling that it is extremely easy to trick some people into liking something.

A Catcher in the Rye.  J. D. Salinger’s book that was an alleged favorite of Oswald, Chapman, and Hinkley.  Haven’t read it in 40 years.  Has an eerie way creeping up on you.  Depressing as hell.

Just finished Where the Forest Meets the Stars.  

A trio of characters.  A 20 something girl, a 20 something guy, a child.   All with their own troubles.  It developed nicely throughout.  The child helping to guide the relationships and other things through quarks. ;)  

I loved the dialogue.  I cried a few times. I loved the book.  I can see it becoming a movie.  Or as Dan says a chick flick.

Dan had read one of his favorite authors, so when he was done, I picked it up.

Just finished The Guardians by John Grisham

Why do I suddenly feel the need to make a donation to an innocence project organization.

A little slow at the beginning, but so worth it.   I teared up a few times.   I'm an easy crier though.
