Day 01 - Best book you read last year

I didn't read a lot last year.   So, that narrows it down.  In fact, I only read 3 books.  This was the best of them.

Day 02 - A book that you’ve read more than 3 times

Yesterday, looking ahead to Day 2, I thought, I have never read a book more than once.    But I figured one out on the drive home yesterday.    Because of grade school, and one college class.

Charles Dickens - David Copperfield

I will admit to never reading it.
If you read it 3 times, it must be good.
Seeing that I am between books,  I just purchase the Kindle version for $0.99 on Amazon.
Thanks Barb!
And a thank you to the Lady for another interesting topic.

Actually, it's "more than 3 times." I read it again last year, and that was at least the 4th time, and maybe the 5th. And, though I'd be hard-pressed to name one book as my all-time favorite, David Copperfield would certainly be in the Top 5. I've read all of Dickens's novels at least twice, and several of them I've read multiple times (but I've never read, and never will read, "The Mystery of Edwin Drood," Dickens's final, and unfinished, novel).

However, Victorian literature in general, and Dickens in particular, isn't for everyone. It's very long (the edition I last read ran about 900 ages), some readers (and critics) feel that the drama is overly melodramatic, and it often relies on coincidence. But I'd still consider it one of the greatest novels every written, chiefly because of the host of amazing and unforgettable characters.

But give it a try. I think you'll enjoy it once you get into it.

"Practicing History", by Barbara Tuchman. I have read it several times. It helps decipher political events and the world in its confusing whirl.

Besides being a long loved story for over 20 years, I listen to the audio books.  Instead of one reader, they have a cast of several persons adding to the depth of the series.

Second book in the "Ender's Game" series.  Orson Scott Card said this was the book he wanted to write, but had to write "Ender's Game" to set things up for "Speaker For The Dead".  Again, I listened to the audiobook with a cast of several persons.

Day 04 - Your Favorite Book of Your Series:

The first book in the Maisie Dobbs series -- called, simply, "Maisie Dobbs" -- is my favorite.

The title character is a fascinating woman, with a rich, complicated background, a huge amount of inner strength and keen psychological insight, and -- and this is giving nothing away -- life-changing experiences working as a battle nurse in France during the carnage of World War I. She's from a lower class background who worked as a scullery maid from the time she was a girl, but she also has an advanced degree with Cambridge and her patron and patroness are among the richest and most powerful in all of England.
