Ummmm....plot....some guy arranged for a bunch of assassins to be on a train together to basically kill each other.  I fell asleep for a bit.

So Grosse Point Blank on a Train.  :emot_laughing:

Bullet Train’s name reminds me of the Denzel Washington movie called Unstoppable. What was the basic plot? Was it about a high-speed train, or a train out of control, or snakes on a train? It could be anything. I hope Brad Pitt gave some lady boners.

Allan loves that movie, and Chris Pine allows me the patients to sit through it. It's an out of control train with toxic or flammable chemicals on it, and it's going to crash and kill a town.

Rented the Lost City from redbox.  It was silly funny and I enjoyed it, but I found myself yelling out "fuck you Sandra Bullock". First she gets to be all up on my Ryan Reynolds in "the Proposal" and now she gets to be on her knees in front of a nude Channing Tatum? God hes got a great looking butt!  Some people get all the fun jobs.

Belfast, currently on HBO.  The movie takes place in the latter part of 1969 when the serious troubles began. Soundtrack by Van Morrison.

Have to wonder, in this day and age, why England still maintains a presence in Northern Ireland.

Haven't seen it yet but hoping to in the near future.

In answer to your question - because the Republic doesn't want it.  Not those that control the Republic's economy, that is, they don't want an additional £11 billion a year drain on them.  It would solve a lot of our Brexit problems if Ireland were re-united but the bloodshed that would ensue if we tried to give it back doesn't bare thinking about it.

I can also recommend a film called "The Wind That Shakes The Barley" about Ireland and it's struggles.

Watched Prey on Hulu.

Girl Power - Yes.
Historical inaccuracies - full of them.

My only MAJOR gripe with this movie was that her lust to hunt, and "Prove herself capable of hunting" was what killed her friends and family. AND she did not even stop to consider WHY she should not hunt the Predator. The fucker lifted a fully grown bear. Even if you were smart and cunning, there is only so much you could do. But a decent movie to watch on a rainy day.

Watched Uncanny Counter on netflix

Good K-Drama, about a group of noodle shop workers hunting down evil spirits like afterlife bounty hunter. A whole lot of feels in this one. worth the binge.

for the anime fans:

The way of the househusband
The yakuzas guide to babysitting
Summertime Render - Love the whole mind fuck of it
The devil is a part timer - season 1 and 2 damned funny show.
Vermiel in gold - its good, if you can get past the "Older woman, young man" trope
Pharmacy in another world - good show

We did watch Prey on Hulu. A prequel to the original Predator movie. One nice thing I learned was many of the actors and actresses who played Native Americans were actually Native Americans. For a minute, I thought the grizzly bear was going to get the better of the Predator. Good special effects and beautiful country where the movie was filmed.

I liked the movie, but it should not be treated as a singular prequel. The Yautja (predators) have been to earth so much they got frequent space flyer points out the ass. They come to earth to hunt, first it was the dino's then the apes, then us. Knowing the lore behind them kind of kills it for me a bit. The predator was probably just blooded going on his first solo hunt, or else nothing would have lived through that. But they being significantly bigger than humans helps, though the females are larger. It would have been cooler human female vs predator female, as the females rarely hunt, but do so to settle disputes or secure the attention of a prime male hunter predator.

Finally got to the end of "This Is Us", really liked the early series but it got somewhat maudlin towards the end. The incessant loud background music in the last few episodes didn't help.

The only one I recognize is the last, about a chemist who finds himself in a parallel universe. I got through two episodes but couldn't finish the third.

The only Japanese anime series I watched through to the end is Serial Experiments Lain. I found it rather addictive.  :D

If you liked Lain, then try Mahou Shoujo Site. It destroys the magical girl trope.

Thanks! I took a look at the site, and now have some idea of what the series is about. What I liked about Serial Experiments Lain was:

  • The theme song and opening credits (Duvet by bôa)
  • The graphics, especially the freaky tangle of telephone and power lines criss-crossing the sky.
  • The ambiguity of Lain's family.
  • The escalation in Lain's computer setup

What I didn't like was:

  • The annoying kids in the Cyberia club
  • The dream sequence with childish bogey men
  • The narrator's voice that introduces episodes

The only manga I ever read through to the end was Kenkamichi, both when it was serialized, and when it appeared in book form. That and (dare I say it?) Dr. Slump. I read the manga version, but didn't bother with the TV adaptation. I'm now remedying that by going back to Episode 1, and seeing how far I get.

Bottle Shock (2008)

Paris-based wine expert Steven Spurrier (Alan Rickman a/k/a Hans Gruber) heads to California in search of cheap wine that he can use for a blind taste test in the French capital. Stumbling upon the Napa Valley, the stuck-up Englishman is shocked to discover a winery run by Jim Barrett (Bill Pullman), turning out top-notch chardonnay. Determined to make a name for himself, he sets about getting the booze back to Paris. Based on a true story. Eye candy Chris Pine plays Barrett’s son, Bo.

Love, love, loved it. Can’t believe I had not watched it before. I had seen the title and assumed it was a teen flick or something.

Bottle-shock or Bottle-sickness is a temporary condition of wine characterized by muted or disjointed fruit flavors.

Good movie. France was stunned the year a California wine was rated tops over French wine.

For a fascinating glimpse of the darker side of the wine auction industry, I recommend a documentary called Sour Grapes (2016).

Wikipedia has a informative article on Rudy Kurniawan, the 'star' of the documentary, released from prison in 2020.

Thanks for that PH.  I love the sadly missed Alan Rickman but have never heard of that film, I will put it in the (wine) bucket list.  For fans of Alan Rickman (a/k/a Obadiah Slope) I can heartily recommend the BBC production of "The Barchester Chronicles" featuring a whole host of great British actors.

Coven of Sisters (2021)

‘Coven of Sisters’ takes place in Spain in 1609 in a small town in the Basque Country. All of the men of the town are out at sea for the month so a religious inquisitor, on an extensive streak of burning women accused of being witches at the stake, uses this opportunity to come into the town and arrest six girls found dancing and singing in Basque around in the woods and accuse them of being witches. The girls, in an effort to delay their burning at the stake, decide to go along with the lie and let the inquisitor think that they will show him the witch Sabbath ritual at the next full moon.

Highlight of the movie was Amaia Aberasturi taking a bath. Meow meow meow.

Reportedly done on a low budget with a largely unknown cast. The movie is surprisingly entertaining. It certainly could’ve been a lot worse. Available on Netflix.

Most Terrifying Places in America. Watching it because Dan went to bed, leaving it on this station,. And the remote is out of reach.  Yes, I'm lazy at 11:50 on a Sunday night.
The show is about ghost encounters. People telling their horror stories. I'll never fall asleep if I don't get my hands on the remote.
