For a fascinating glimpse of the darker side of the wine auction industry, I recommend a documentary called Sour Grapes (2016).

Wikipedia has a informative article on Rudy Kurniawan, the 'star' of the documentary, released from prison in 2020.

By darker side of the wine industry do you mean the reds?  ;D ;D   Will have to look for that movie. Thank you.

I've just finished watching a fascinating Canadian documentary called "Forbidden Love: The Unashamed Stories of Lesbian Lives", made in 1992. Fascinating because it interweaves interviews with women talking about their experiences in the '50s and '60s, with an enacted drama about a lady called Laura, which in turn is linked to lesbian pulp fiction of that era. Author Ann Bannon talks about her work, and I was surprised and delighted to find most of her Beebo Brinker Chronicles in my archive of digital books.

The documentary, especially the interviews, were eye-opening. So many things I didn't know.

You are just a thought that someone, somewhere, somehow feels you should be here.

You and I are digital hoarders Hilda. My son asked me why I have 40,000+ songs, photos, and videos on my phone. I explained that I am a member of the last generation who went to record stores on Saturdays to dig through the bins looking for rare vinyl. Or going to the used bookstore and walking in the aisles, seeking the perfect book. There is a joy in possessing and controlling that. It’s not that you actually look at it all the time, or even know that you have it. But there’s a certain comfort in realizing, when they drop the big one and we’re all sitting in a bunker, that you’ll still have it, and nobody can take it from you, until the battery runs out. LOL.

Watched the latest movie about Elvis on HBO last night, titled Elvis. I don't think it was Tom Hank's greatest moment playing Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis' manager.  The music was good thought, especially the hits towards the end of his career.

That's on my `To Watch' list.

The last movie I watched was Top Gun: Maverick. Its unbelievable that he would still be in the Navy at the rank of Captain, but the movie was almost as good as the original. I've heard people complain that the end fight was a rip off of the attack on the Death Star from the first Star Wars movie, but most of those space fights were based on footage of actual WW2 air combat. I could see them doing a third movie, with or without Tom Cruise. (Miles Teller taking over as the lead)

My wife and I binged Only Murders In The Building season 2 over two days. I thought it was better than the first season, but there were not nearly enough clues to figure out who the killer was. Can't wait for season 3.

I have already bought this. I plan to watch it tonight. I started to watch it last night after the football game, but I already had enough bourbon in me that I fell asleep. So I’m going to rewind and start over again.

I'm probably going to be reaching for some Jack Daniel's Tennessee Apple after the Cowboys-Buccaneers game that's coming up  next Sunday....

Rented the movie, but will definitely be buying a copy.

Watched all 3 episodes so far of She-Hulk Attorney At Law this weekend, and forgot to mention that.

I watched it last night, and I completely agree.

While the movie's named "Elvis," a more accurate name would be "Colonel Tom Parker." Perhaps I should have known this going in, but the focus -- from the opening scene to the closing scene -- is more on Colonel Parker and less on Elvis himself. And as much as I love Tom Hanks, his performance was underwhelming.

There were parts that were excellent. The scene at the beginning, where Elvis is around 10 and he first watches a blues performance in a juke joint and then watches a gospel performance in a revival tent is perfectly done, and very affecting. And, as you note, Elvis's performances toward the end when he is older are fun to watch.

Took my granddaughter to see DC League of Superpets.  Entertaining enough.  They got someone (I forget who) to write songs like Randy Newman did for Toy Story.  The portrayal of the Justice League members was meh, but it's a movie aimed at the 6-12 age group so okay.

I finally watched Top Gun: Maverick in its entirety. And all I can say is WOW. They really outdid themselves. And the storyline was so much more important than the CGI and special effects. It was really dealing with how we continue to live with the past. They put Goose’s son in the movie (call sign Rooster). And Val Kilmer, who was in endstage cancer at the time of filming, made an appearance, as Admiral Iceman in endstage cancer. I was just bawling my eyes out. My son was laughing at me. “Why are you crying dad? It’s an action movie; you hate them.” But this was an action movie with so many layers. I just felt worn out by the end. But it was a very good feeling. Jennifer Connelly was smoking hot  at age 51. And I got the feeling that Maverick was the father of her daughter, Amelia. It was a beautiful film. I really enjoyed it.

Actually, I don't believe they actually said what iceman's illness was, but it can be inferred. I watched the movie right after watching the first one on Paramount+, and Cruise doesn't look 36 years older at all. Maybe 15. He's in phenomenal shape. (I get the same feeling about Amelia, by the way.) Could see them carrying on the franchise with Miles Teller taking the lead. Unless he did something after to screw up royally, Maverick should have gotten a promotion for leading that mission. My only negative? They kept talking about how dangerous the mission was, yet no one died or at least badly injured.

Jenny was the “Admiral’s daughter” from the original Top Gun. But the way that she and Maverick talked about Amelia is the way that parents talk about their child. There was a certain intimacy and shared knowledge that reflected that likelihood to me.

I think we are going to see a lot more of Lyliana Wray in coming years. She has a Scarlett Johansson quality about her. She’s going to be a top star is my prediction.

I had that feeling also when we watched it, but as I recall, it had been more years since they had seen each other than Amelia was in age.  But I could be wrong. It's been so long since we saw it.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. It was spectacular on the big screen

Well they’ve “known” each other for 36 years. And the dialogue indicated that they had been on again off again on multiple occasions. Amelia is only described as a teenager, so I don’t think it impossible that Maverick and Penny didn’t get it on to make her. I don’t recall him asking any questions about “Amelia’s father,” so I’ll have to wait until the script is posted online.

I know a lawyer who likes to be called Paladin. And he had business cards made up to look like his.

Nice. I watch re-runs of the show whenever I have the chance. I recently found out that Richard Boone wasn't the first choice to play Paladin, and can't believe it. He was absolutely perfect. They actually wanted Randolph Scott, but he turned them down.

The funny thing is, I've never listened to any episodes of the radio show, despite being a of those (I have a lot of episodes of The Shadow), because I can't imagine anyone else as Paladin.

That was a favourite of mine as well. I think it was very popular in the UK.

Are you watching the premiere of Jeopardy that began in 1964 or the latest version that began in September of 1984?  I remember the 1964 version. The dollar amounts were very small.
