I finally watched Top Gun: Maverick in its entirety. And all I can say is WOW. They really outdid themselves. And the storyline was so much more important than the CGI and special effects. It was really dealing with how we continue to live with the past. They put Goose’s son in the movie (call sign Rooster). And Val Kilmer, who was in endstage cancer at the time of filming, made an appearance, as Admiral Iceman in endstage cancer. I was just bawling my eyes out. My son was laughing at me. “Why are you crying dad? It’s an action movie; you hate them.” But this was an action movie with so many layers. I just felt worn out by the end. But it was a very good feeling. Jennifer Connelly was smoking hot  at age 51. And I got the feeling that Maverick was the father of her daughter, Amelia. It was a beautiful film. I really enjoyed it.

Actually, I don't believe they actually said what iceman's illness was, but it can be inferred. I watched the movie right after watching the first one on Paramount+, and Cruise doesn't look 36 years older at all. Maybe 15. He's in phenomenal shape. (I get the same feeling about Amelia, by the way.) Could see them carrying on the franchise with Miles Teller taking the lead. Unless he did something after to screw up royally, Maverick should have gotten a promotion for leading that mission. My only negative? They kept talking about how dangerous the mission was, yet no one died or at least badly injured.

Jenny was the “Admiral’s daughter” from the original Top Gun. But the way that she and Maverick talked about Amelia is the way that parents talk about their child. There was a certain intimacy and shared knowledge that reflected that likelihood to me.

I think we are going to see a lot more of Lyliana Wray in coming years. She has a Scarlett Johansson quality about her. She’s going to be a top star is my prediction.

I had that feeling also when we watched it, but as I recall, it had been more years since they had seen each other than Amelia was in age.  But I could be wrong. It's been so long since we saw it.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. It was spectacular on the big screen

Well they’ve “known” each other for 36 years. And the dialogue indicated that they had been on again off again on multiple occasions. Amelia is only described as a teenager, so I don’t think it impossible that Maverick and Penny didn’t get it on to make her. I don’t recall him asking any questions about “Amelia’s father,” so I’ll have to wait until the script is posted online.

An episode of Have Gun, Will Travel. One of my favorite tv westerns.

I know a lawyer who likes to be called Paladin. And he had business cards made up to look like his.

Nice. I watch re-runs of the show whenever I have the chance. I recently found out that Richard Boone wasn't the first choice to play Paladin, and can't believe it. He was absolutely perfect. They actually wanted Randolph Scott, but he turned them down.

The funny thing is, I've never listened to any episodes of the radio show, despite being a of those (I have a lot of episodes of The Shadow), because I can't imagine anyone else as Paladin.

That was a favourite of mine as well. I think it was very popular in the UK.

Currently watching the season premiere of Jeopardy! off the DVR. Just finished the first round, and only got two questions wrong.

Are you watching the premiere of Jeopardy that began in 1964 or the latest version that began in September of 1984?  I remember the 1964 version. The dollar amounts were very small.

The most recent season of the current show which started in 1984.

(An observation: The UK and US seem to have `season' and `series' switched. I found this out from conversations about Doctor Who. In the U.S., series means the show as a whole, while season means the latest round of episodes. The U.K. uses `series' for what we call a season.)

Dog, airing on Amazon Prime.

Two former Army Rangers are paired against their will on the road trip of a lifetime. Army Ranger Briggs (Channing Tatum) and Lulu (a Belgian Malinois dog)

Damn good movie. And Channing Tatum also directed it.

I just finished the Masked Singer season premiere. 4 contestants, 3 eliminations, but they're making us wait until next week to see who the third elimination is. (That is, who is under the mask. They did reveal which character was going bye-bye.) And the two they did show are absolute living legends!
