A great talent.  He was a top guitar player long before he started singing.  Made big bucks in Nashville playing for other music legends before he struck out on his own and became an even bigger star than some of those he backed up.  I've missed him ever since he retired.

Well trained and been made compliant....by my cat Neville

Rest In Peace, Glenn Campbell.

Some people are like the 'slinky'. Not really good for much,
but they bring a smile to your face as they fall down stairs.

Oh no....

I loved Glenn Campbell.   Rhinestone Cowboy was one of my first favorite country songs.

I was unaware he had Alzheimers.  :(

Wichita Lineman... I've heard this Jimmy Webb chestnut 100's of times, and still makes me a little Verklempt.  I lived in Galveston when "Galveston" was in the Top 40.  And who can forget By The Time I Get to Phoenix?  A great musician, a great balladeer, a spokesman for Alzheimer's research.  We will miss him.

....... a spokesman for Alzheimer's research.  We will miss him.

Seriously?     I never knew this.   And I've done my fair share of reading about Alzheimer's.

Post this under   "What I learned today."

His award winning 2014 biopic entitled "I'll Be Me" chronicled Campbell's battle with Alzheimer's.  Maybe I mischaracterized what he did.  I forget...

I heard he died but had no idea he had alzheimers.  What I do know is that he was  great musician and songwriter. We are diminished by his loss.

He will definitely be missed by all. Not only for the man himself, but for his amazing guitar work over the years for his own and other bands.

He never really quit... he played along with his kids on stage and they would sometimes give him cues when he started to really lose track towards the end, and he had a teleprompter to help him remember the lyrics. But his guitar playing was so automatic that he didn't even have to think about it. What an exceptional musician!! ...and what a terrible way to go. I watched the same thing happen to my grandmother back in the 1980's. :'(

TIL that Nobel Laureate Bob Dylan once said that Jimmy Webb’s masterpiece “Wichita Lineman,” recorded by Glen Campbell, is “the greatest song ever written.”

I bought a copy of this album in 1970 and almost wore it out with repeated plays. "Not again!" my flatmates would yell at me when they heard the opening bars of "Sleepin' in the Daytime".

"P.F. Sloan", the second track on the album, is another masterpiece.

Jimmy Webb and Adele both employ appoggiatura, a note that clashes with the melody just enough to create a dissonant sound.

An appoggiatura creates contrast and in emotional terms translate into “tension” for the listener. The device also establishes a pattern—a kind of back and forth between melody and dissonance. When appoggiatura retreats and melody is restored, the listener feels a sense of relief or release. String together a number of appoggiaturas and a composer works the listener up into a bit of a state, which can result in goose bumps or tears.

Shifts in volume and tremolo also enhance the effect. The science of music.
