I figured it was about time to have one.

I'm a Brit, and that shade of sort-of-purple stands out, and is also neither blue nor pink.

I'd call that magenta. A very interesting color. I've always been curious where that name came from. Part of the CMYK color system (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) used in printing. Good choice, IB!

Sunday evening is a good time to research useless factoids. Dictionary.com says magenta is the name of a dye discovered in Italy the same year as the Battle of Magenta,

a town in N Italy, W of Milan: the French and Sardinians defeated the Austrians here 1859

In fact, I recall now that in my schoolboy days I got chemistry sets at Christmas for a few years running. One of the experiments involved mixing phenolpthalein with something, and the result was a vivid color that looked very much like magenta. I always liked seeing that color appear abruptly in the test tube. (That was a very long time ago.)
