He's saying the same thing a lot of coaches say. Players and coaches focus too much on scrimmaging than fundamentals and footwork. While players have become faster, stronger and more athletic via weight training, nutrition and sport science, they don't "work" on their games.
Over in Europe at the sport academies they have two practices a day. One on individual work in the morning, then they go to class, then a team practice after that.
