During this current year alone, nearly 30 racehorses have been put down, killed while in a race, and one had a heart attack after crossing the finish line. During Saturdays Preakness race, a horse unseated it's rider at the start, yet ran unfettered the entire race as trained to do in all his 3 years.
Activists are calling for the abolishment of the sport citing over working the young animals and rampart drug use to promote performance. Fact, some are raced too often and some entered with less than perfect health. For the prize purses and for the $2 bettors. The Kentucky Derby had 23 entrants.

Opinions?

Been waiting to ask Liz if she any insight as to the death of the racehorses in California.

Alas, she is not around...

Nearly 10 horses a week, on average, died at American racetracks in 2018, according to the Jockey Club’s Equine Injury Database. That’s a fatality rate that is anywhere from two and a half to five times greater than in the rest of the racing world.

Outside of the United States, medications for racehorses are strictly regulated, policed and punished, according to the Jockey Club, among the oldest and most influential organizations in horse racing. Cracking down on drugs is essential, reformers say, because the drugs allow horses to run unnaturally fast and mask pain, which leads to more breakdowns.

Well, every sport is a business. Even amateur sports are big businesses.

The point is that in other sports, the participants aren't dying in huge numbers...
