I’m watching Ken Burns’s epic “The War” series this Memorial Day weekend.  Seven part documentary about WWII at home and abroad.  It shows a largely lily white America with mom and pop main streets, and red, white & blue bunting.

What it doesn’t show is rampant racism, sexism, homophobia, de facto apartheid, and a host of other ills that are antithetical to true “freedom.”  Japanese Americans in internment camps...

So the history that we imagine, really wasn’t that great to begin with, and you can’t “magic time machine” your way back.  Leaving the EU, or building a wall, will not bring back factory jobs, nor will it change integration and global demographic change.  Blaming immigration for the march of time is a straw man argument, as immigrants are among the hardest working and most innovative members of society.

The real danger is when scared frustrated individuals decide that wrecking economies is better than nothing.  Bringing down “the City” will only send off a chain of events that could impair or capsize the global economy.

Interesting choice to state your opinion but not defend it.

There are two things I don't do :-

1. Discuss religion.
2. Discuss politics.

You volunteered your opinion unprompted. Strange thing to do if you're averse to discussion of it.

It was a response if you care to check... just as this is...

Anyway... why should I answer to you?

It ends here...

A response to what? Idleboast's expression of his disappointment in a different thread and not addressed to you? So you could't resist stating your political opinion but you're above providing any explanation, am I understanding this right?

I haven't asked you anything to answer to, but since you've volunteered the subject again, a good reason to justify your political opinions, especially in this case, is because the political choices you make can directly or indirectly impact the lives of others.

You don't get to have your cake and eat it too, though it should be no surprise that a Brexiter believes they can.

GB, what are your 'plans' for when the UK is independent anew?

I suppose you could find a job elsewhere, someplace less independent.

Good luck with your job search.

Some people are like the 'slinky'. Not really good for much, but they bring a smile to your face as they fall down stairs.

Russia has also been acting to heighten xenophobia and weaken the EU howerver they can. They would rather have a divided Europe on their border.

Apparently being a shitbag to Americans isn't enough for you.

To be fair, it was a response to me, but before this topic was split off another

I don't know if that applies to Vinnie, but it certainly applies to the Brexit "faces".

Just to clarify, yours was in the ruined day thread while his was in the made day thread, so they were still in different threads at the time of posting.

No, I replied (sarcastically) to his "made day" post, and that was his reply to me.

I was referring to the earlier post he made, which was clearly a response to your post in the ruined day thread:

I agree with you Vinney; especially on a chat forum over the internet where nuances of expression are easily lost.  But am sorely tempted to wade in here.

I have voted to join the Common Market in the past and want that now but I am definitely not in favour of political integration which has been the unpublicised aim ever since the formation of the European Coal and Steel Community in 1950.

I have nothing more to say on the subject... let those protagonists read and actually understand what was said then go...sort themselves out...

I’m sorted, but as an American who is also a Scottish Nationalist, my opinion and beliefs in this matter are irrelevant. Just like my opinion of separation of Scotland from the UK.

There are three kinds of people in the world. Those who can count, and those who can't.
