Many years ago I entered a clerihew contest. My entry was in the "dead people" category, and I won third place with:

Charles Dickens, it's said
Enjoyed a drink before bed
His nightly martini he never missed
With an olive or twist.

OMG, I love it.

Thursday July 11th

National Cheer Up The Lonely Day
    National Rainier Cherry Day
    National Blueberry Muffin Day
    All American Pet Photo Day
    National Mojito Day
    National 7-Eleven Day
    National Free Slurpee Day
    World Population Day

Yo, all you lonely folks. Read MissBarbara's Clerihew poem, quoted by MJ above. Or walk up to someone and offer to buy them a mojito.

To get an idea of the scope of the World Population... try picking up a free slurpee today, or even getting in the parking lot.  ;D

    National 7-Eleven Day
    National Free Slurpee Day

I love Slurpee's.   In Michigan, we have a pop (you may call it soda ;)) called Faygo.  They make a flavor called Rock & Rye.    7-11 has Faygo has Rock & Rye slurpees at participating stores.   My favorite.     My daughter mixes every flavor there is, layered on top of each other.   She gets an 'A' for appearance, but 'F' for taste once it gets mixed together.  Ick

I was told by Dan that it costs about $0.03 to make a slurpee.  Add on the cost of a cut.  $0.05.    Total cost to 7-11 is 8 cents.   I tried finding the facts to back up his claim but didn't find it.
I did find these fun facts though.

The worst fact from the article :  The 44-ounce Dr. Pepper Slurpee contains around 825 calories, most of which are from sugar.   EEEK!

7-11, inventor of the Slurpee (or at least who made it world famous) was started in Dallas by the Thompson family.  I went to school with some of their kids.  Disturbingly wealthy.  Not Donald Trump wealthy, truly, ridonkulously wealthy.  So we’ve always loved our Slurpees in Texas.  Both my uncles worked for 7-11 when I was a kid, and my son recently took a job with a 7-11 subsidiary, so you could say Toe thanks heaven for 7-11.

There was a time that 7-11 stores were closing like crazy around us.   The last 15 years they have been opening like crazy.   There are more 7-11's in my town now than there are McDonalds.

In the late 80’s, the Thompsons took the company (Southland Corp.) private by buying back outstanding shares.  They took on over $5 Billion in debt to do this, and the 90’s were marked with store closings and sell offs as they struggled to stay afloat.  They finally went through a Chapter 11 and a Japanese merger.  The company is still headquartered in Dallas, but no longer exclusively under Thompson family control.

When 7‑Eleven started selling Slurpee drinks they were called Icees.  The #1 market in the world for Slurpee sales is Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, followed by the greater Detroit, Michigan, area.

Watcher attempts to cheer up the lonely people, not only today, but pretty much every day. But not with 7-11 Slurpees.  ;D ;D

You're right, I'm the one on the left.   In the back.
Strap on.   That's my tan, not hair.  Touch to portray shin color on an Etch n Sketch
