Monday night football was a total shocker tonight. Bill’s safety Damar Hamlin collapsed and suffered cardiac arrest on the field following a tackle. CPR was administered for perhaps 10 minutes. And tough NFL football players were crying openly. He is reportedly in critical condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. The NFL wisely suspended the game. Everyone was traumatized.

There was a Detroit Lions player Chuck Hughes, who died in 1971 after suffering a heart attack during a game. But I don’t think anyone has received CPR on the field in the history of the NFL. I really wondered if this was going to be the first NFL death broadcast on national TV.

Thoughts and prayers for all concerned.

As near as I can tell, suspending a game after it began was unprecedented before last night.

Games have been delayed after starting (power outage, lightning or other weather related reasons), sometimes for hours, but I don't know of any other game that was suspended indefinitely before the first quarter ended.

Kudos to the Bengals, their fans and the city of Cincinnati for recognizing the seriousness of the injury. I've never seen a stadium filled with 65,000+ rabid fans as quiet as Paycor became once the ambulance came onto the field.

Here's hoping young Mr. Hamlin suffers no lasting debilitation.

When my wife told me about it I assumed he was speered but after looking at the video it seemed like a clean hit.  He made the tackle and took a shoulder pad to the chest and it wasn't even a very hard hit.  Just an incredible freak accident.  My heart goes out to the family especially but also to the other player.  It wasn't his fault but you know he's wracked with guilt anyway.

My heart goes out to all his family friends and teammates. He's in his 20s and looking healthy as ever, and then this happens to the poor guy! Alot of people thought he just passed out and hit his head hard, but when cpr started it was a wakeup call for everybody.

I just wish people would stop stating the obvious that "the game doesn't matter". Yeah, no shit! Every video clip I watched on this, the news personality or whatever would say that, like that somehow makes them a better person or something.

Dan is geeked about the game tonight. He's called about 4 friends to come over and watch. They all turned him down. :(
I might have to put on my Matthew Stafford jersey, some sexy underwear and nothing else to watch the game with him.
I actually thought of some Lion tattoos on my boobs, but can't find them. I think M took took them when she went to a game earlier in the season.

Lions win, Rams win, Detroit in the playoffs.

Go Lions!  F the packers!
Go Rams, beat the Seahawks!

Vikings are ahead of da Bears 23-13 in the third quarter.
The Vikes have been unpredictable even with their good record. They've pulled out some miracle wins and then they've looked like they are lost.

I've already surprised him with the outfit. It has put him in a better mood. His friends not coming over is a non-issue now. Kind of cold in the house though.

Playing Scrabble and being lazy now. I have time to be on KB during our game because he's so slow. I already have my next word to laydown picked out.

Rams lost, Seattle won, means the Lions are eliminated from the playoffs.

Wow, the Rams really had a stinker of a season.

Buccaneers Will Host Cowboys to Start Playoffs

Tampa Bay's playoff game in the opening round will be a rematch with the Dallas Cowboys, a team they beat 19-3 to start the season…The game will be played at Raymond James Stadium, with date and time to be announced later on Sunday.

Tampa Bay is the only team in the playoffs with a losing record (8-9) and yet they won their division and will play at home against Dallas (12-5). The NFL can be really weird at times.

Wish the Lions could have made the playoffs. Jared Goff went into last night's game with a QB rating of (somewhere around) 26 in games played in below freezing temperatures, but that should go up after they beat the Packers. Hey, he's a California kid, what would you expect.

He's actually a distant cousin of mine on my mom's side. I've only met him once, twenty-some years ago at a Goff family reunion in California. I think he was four at the time. Gee, I wonder if he'd remember me.

Based on recent play, I think San Francisco and Cincinnati have the best chance of making it to the Super Bowl.

I’m really excited about this year’s playoffs. And I usually don’t care. But things have gone back-and-forth all season long. It’s just been really exciting to watch the teams climb into contention.

I predicted at the beginning of the season that the Cowboys would get a wildcard spot and lose their first game. That’s been there modus operandi for years. No shame in losing to the GOAT. Plus, MJ promised to put on her nursing uniform and give me a warm coffee enema at halftime.

I agree with your assessment that San Francisco will be in the Super Bowl. Brock Purdy has just been a thrill to watch this season. That young man has a very promising future in the NFL. I think the Super Bowl will be San Francisco and Kansas City.

I would be pretty pissed off if I were a Seahawks, Lions or Washington fan. TBB are still in my proximity support list though.

I see that the Bengals and Bills have only played 16 games.  Why is that?

They would still be in the same position if they had lost that missing game.  But what would have happened if it affected the playoff picture?

There was a great deal of discussion about that. In the end, the NFL didn’t see a way to complete the suspended game without interfering with the playoff schedule. An imperfect result, but I applaud the NFL for showing an ounce of sensitivity.

Buffalo is the team that may have gotten the shaft in this arrangement, but ONLY if the suspended game had been completed and the Bills had won. If that had happened, Buffalo and Kansas City would have had the same record (14-3) and the Bills would have owned the tie-breaker by virtue of having beaten KC in the regular season game between the two teams.

Since that wasn't going to happen, the NFL declared Kansas City as the AFC team with the best record (and thus home field advantage through the playoffs) BUT stipulated that if KC and Buffalo both make it to the AFC championship game, that game will be played at a neutral site instead of making the Bills go to Kansas City for the game.

If Kansas City and any other team make it to the AFC championship game, it will be played in KC. If Kansas City loses before that game, the normal rules stipulate that the AFC championship game will be played at the home field of the higher seed.
