A friend sent me this photo from the Florida keys.  Am I looking at Orion’s Belt?  Or something else?

He took it with an iMax Pro 11.  Incredible quality for a phone.

Has the image been reversed?  This is how i normally see the belt from the UK with the sword hanging from the left end of the belt.

That's exactly what I was thinking.  If I saw that I would immediately think Orion.

So after minutes and minutes of diligent research I believe that it is not the constilation Orion.

Still a very beautiful photo.

If Toe knows the time and date (even approximately) for the image. I can input that to my star map software and maybe help clarify it.  The direction of view (N,S,E,W) would also help.

I don’t know any of those things.  LOL. It’s a great photo, in any event.

Will Betelgeuse Explode? After ‘Unprecedented’ Dimming The Giant Star Is Now Changing Shape

All this speculation I’ve seen lately about whether Betelgeuse ‘will’ explode?  It exploded during the 14th century.  We just haven’t seen it yet.

Word is, we will see it some time in the next 100,000 years.  Hardly a blip on the cosmic time clock.

Exactly, but most people don't think about it that way.  Just like conversation about being on the ship looking at the galaxy.  Even knowing what we know it's still a little difficult to fully understand that kind of distance.

Suggesting what Toe said, I suppose a better headline would be "will we see the betelgeuse explosion sooner"??

The implications of Betelgeuse being 650-700 light years away make for mind boggling speculation.  I was thinking it could have exploded in 1360 and nobody on earth saw it yet.

I’m weirdly sad about this.  As a kid star gazing, there was just something about that red giant in the most prominent constellation that had me decide it was my favorite star.  It’s sort of like finding out an aging loved one has a terminal disease.
