For me, it has got to be the freedom of it all.

Not a fucking thing. There are a lot of people I wish were, and are glad are dead from my childhood.

If daddy would die, I might finally be able to make some peace from it.

I miss seeing my grandparents every day.  They were my parents and role models growing up.  I have never been close to my parents, for various reasons.  I learned all my cooking skills from my grandmother.  My love of swimming, history, sailing, photography, motor cars... these were all things I did with my grandfather.

I started writing this and it soon morphed into the hatred of my mother.  I've cut what had become 6 long paragraphs, down to 6 words.

My sister.  She was my childhood.

.
You might not know this, but I have a thing for Tom Brady (and Bill Clinton)

Same.

My sister was kind of my only reason to live. In many ways she was my first kid. I raised her right.  :D Mostly.

I understand the bitterness that some of you feel, and there are certain parts of my childhood I would like to forget altogether.  I would like to forget being bullied.  And while I would not consider my father an abusive man, I would like to forget his short temper.
I would like to forget my big brother's addiction to speed and how he left welts on my back on one occasion beating me.  I don't remember him hitting me, you see, because it hurts more that I had to tell Mom and dad where the welts came from after they saw me with my shirt off.  I probably have more bad memories like that than any, being caught between my siblings and my parents.

But the thing you lose and never get back again is that state of grace, that freedom of being, much like Adam and Eve before the apple, and that is what I miss the most.

My father was a drunken womanizer.  No idea where I got that from.  He was also hateful, verbally abusive, and repeatedly told me I’d never amount to shit in life.  My mother suffered a massive head trauma when I was only two years old, that left her mentally unstable and completely unhinged.  She was also physically and sexually abusive, but I don’t hold it against her, because I really don’t think she had her mental faculties all there.  Still doesn’t.

I miss spending time on my grandpa's farm (dad's dad).  Back when he had cows and I would spend the summers helping him out.  Steering the tractor and running over the cowpies.  Going out to the creek behind the acres and spending the hot days swimming.

Ah, accidently drop the pencil when approaching the desk?  Worked much better in drafting class where the fresh out of college substitutes would have to sit on high stools. And that was the time of the mini skirts.  8)

CJ's teachers were as perverted as anyone. Men and women. My time in school was just like out of it. Hunted by predators.

Maybe it’s a Southern thing?  I don’t have a clue that is either.

Made me think of the first time I had grits as a child, automatically served as a side with my breakfast order in a restaurant at the top of Mt Mitchell, NC.  The conversation between the waitress and myself went something like this:

‘What’s that?’
‘Grits.  You never had grits before?’
‘No.’
‘Well, try them.’
I tried them.
‘Well, what do you think?’
‘I know why they call them grits.’
‘Why?’
‘They taste like sand.’
