There were so many bad remakes in that era:  To name a few:

The Flintstones
Charlie’s Angels
The Beverly Hillbillies
The Addams Family
Inspector Gadget
The Dukes of Hazard
The Brady Bunch
The Fugitive
CHiP’s
George of the Jungle
The Jetsons
Scooby Doo
Yogi Bear
Sponge Bob
Get Smart
Dark Shadows
South Park
Mission Impossible
Wild Wild West

And of course:

Batman
Superman
Star Trek

While this is swerving somewhat off topic, I'd suspect I'm far from alone in considering some of the movies on your list as "bad."

I've only seen the first two Tom Cruise "Mission Impossible" movies, but I found them both to be absolutely thrilling. And the same goes, perhaps even more so, for the Harrison Ford remake of "The Fugitive."

In context, the first Spongebob movie is almost perfect. The two "Addams Family" movies, with Raul Julia, Angelica Huston, Christopher Lloyd, and a young Christina Ricci, are terrific dark comedies. And the "George of the Jungle" remake with Brendan Frasier is laugh out loud funny from start to finish.

Imho...

George of the Jungle was one of my favourite movies when I was a kid and it's closer to a parody than a remake. I agree with the rest of what you said, perhaps with the exception of Mission Impossible 2, and I would add a few more comments.

The Batman "remakes" have little resemblance either to one another or the Adam West series (which was itself of course a comic book adaptation). Both Burton and Nolan's take on the character were unique and interesting movies, especially in the context of the superhero movie genre. As far as I know, Spongebob has never been remade, but I don't know much about it. South Park certainly hasn't and the one movie that exists was made by the creators of the show, in continuity with the show and did not disrupt release of the show. Hard to see what the problem is there.

You're right.

While there have been two feature-length Spongebob movies released in theaters, they weren't remakes, they were movie versions of the TV show, made by the same people, and featuring the same voice actors. Well, the same voice actors, plus David Hasselhoff, who does a hilarious self-parody.

Okay, you just made me feel old.

The Brendan Frasier "George of the Jungle" remake came out when I was 18.

And it's really a parody of a parody, since the "George of the Jungle" cartoon series from the 1960s was itself a parody of the Tarzan movies.

For those of us who were kids in the 1960’s...

George, George
George of the Jungle,
Strong as he can be.
(Ahhhhhhhh)
Watch out for that tree!

George, George,
George of the Jungle,
Lives a life that's free.
(Ahhhhhhhh)
Watch out for that tree!

When he gets in a scrape,
he makes his escape
with the help of his friend,
an ape named Ape.
Then away he'll schlep
on his elephant Shep
While Fella and Ursula*
Stay in step...with

George, George
George of the Jungle,
Friend to you and me.
(Ahhhhhhhh)
Watch out for that tree!

Watch out for that--
(Ahhhhhhhh)
Treeeee....

George, George
George of the Jungle
Friend to you and me!

[*In the opening of the song, it indeed says "Fella"
(its sometimes erroneously credited as "Velma" or "Thelma")
June Foray, the voice of Ursula, explained:
"It was a joke. The song said Fella and Ursula because George would sometimes call Ursula 'Fella'"
-As answered in "The Magic Behind the Voices: A Who's Who of Cartoon Voice Actors"]

I was 7 when it was released, but I saw it first on video maybe a year later. Going to the cinema was reserved for birthdays when I was that age so movies might as well have not existed until I saw them on video. I also never realised there was originally a cartoon series. I've at least heard of all the others from the list.

The cartoon show was an American thing, and it likely never made its way over there.

And, for the record, I only saw it in syndication, since it originally aired long before I was born (see, now I'm feeling younger again!).

Another attempt to shrink a movie into the TV.

Fun fact: Oliver from The Brady Bunch played Booger.

I was only like 5 and 6 for most of this stuff, I barely even remember it.  I feel zero nostalgia here.

Ditto. But it's still nostalgia. Or stupid. I'm nostalgic for the 80s and I wasn't even there for any of it.  :emot_laughing:

Now for those of us who lived and enjoyed the 60s, and even remembered some of it, now that is nostalgia.  8) 8)

“Well, I've watched 60 Minutes, and I'm saying to myself, they're motivated, they're happening, i.e. they want something. Maybe it's because you're pissed off or maybe it's the jockies, it's none of my business.”

Watching the A-Team on IMDB Freedive.

Fuck was that show pointless. I've said it before, I'll say it again. Every episode seems to be exactly the same. Bad guys want something, rough up innocent people and then they hire the A-Team. A-Team roughs bad guys up, then bad guys kidnap someone. A-Team build armored vehicle out of whatever shit is laying around and rescue the people and then sometimes they don't even charge them money for the job. And occasionally the military chase after them and they always get away.  :emot_shrug:

I just don't get how it made it to 5 seasons.

All 5 seasons free, so watch it.

Still has the best theme song ever though.

I used to see MrT jogging around Streeterville in Chicago. He was always wearing gold chains.

Also, I sat in the actual A Team van.  The show was a hit with the children, not so much with the adults. As was CHIPS.

Nonsense:

Scam email.

You may not know me, and you are probably wondering why you are getting this email, right? I'm a Hacker who cracked your devices. I setup a malware on the adult video (P0RN) website and guess what, you visited this site to have fun (you know what I mean). While you were watching videos, your internet browser started out functioning as a "HRDP" – Hidden Remote Desktop Protocol having a keylogger which gave me accessibility to your screen and webcam. After that, my software program obtained all your contacts and files. You entered a password on the websites you visited, and I intercepted it. Of course, you can change it, or already changed it. But it doesn't matter, my malware updated it every time.

What did I do?
I generated a backup of your every system (private document files, video, photos, all files).
I created a double-screen video. 1st part shows the video you were watching (you've got a good taste ha ha . . .), and 2nd part shows the recording of your webcam.
Do not try to find and destroy my virus! (All your data is already uploaded to a remote server)

Do not try to contact me. Various security services will not help you; formatting a disk or destroying a device will not help either, since your data is already on a remote server.
I guarantee you that I will not disturb you again after payment, as you are not my single victim. This is a hacker code of honor. Don't be mad at me, everyone has their own work.

exactly what should you do?
Well, in my opinion, $ 1000 (USD) Dollars is a fair price for our little secret. You'll make the payment by Bitcoin (search "Bitcoin Wallet" in Application Store then Download & Install) Make a deposit to your wallet. After that, transfer it to my wallet.
My Bitcoin (BTC) wallet address:

(It is case sensitive, Bitcoin wallet address Beginning with 1 and Ending with A)

Important:
You have 3 Business days in order to make the payment. (I've a Facebook pixel in this mail, and at this moment I know that you have read through this email message). To track the reading of a message and the actions in it, I use the Facebook pixel. Thanks to them. (Everything that is used for the authorities can help us.) If I do not get the Bitcoin, I will certainly send out your video recording to all your contacts including relatives, coworkers , Youtube and all contacts. Having said that, if I receive the payment, I'll destroy the video immediately. If you need evidence, reply with "Yes" and I will certainly send out your video recording to your 20 contacts. It is a non-negotiable offer, don't waste my personal time and yours by responding to this message.

 :emot_laughing:

Like I always say, go ahead and do it. My grandma would love to see it. So would my brother. Pretty sure his mom would too. And all my friends would love to see.  ;D

I could live with the humiliation of everyone getting to see CJ diddling it. I'll keep the thousand bucks. Shit, I know people who'd pay to see me do that.  :emot_laughing:
