The first time anyone made me feel old I was probably still shy of 30.  I was in line for Grateful Dead tickets, which involved being on a list.  I mean shit, I actually helped start that list.  But somehow the ‘list’ ended up in the hands of this Asian hottie that looked about 19.  I went over to talk to her (cuz she was fucking hot), and she looked up at me and asked, “Excuse me sir, are you on the list?”

I stood there for a moment, and then placed both palms on my face and exclaimed with great woe, “I’m in line for Grateful Dead tickets, and a girl just called me sir!”

This exclamation on my part led both to laughter among all, and an apology from the Asian hottie.  It still made me feel old.

Don't remeber exactly when it was, 3 maybe 4 years ago, I was at a store purchasing alcohol, and when I handed the cashier my ID, and the little shit said "no, it's ok, don't need to see it."

Now I'm all too happy to show my ID when purchasing anything.

At a garage sale many years ago and a kid pointing to something asking his mom what it is.  The mom answered, "Albums, they're like CD's."

What always reminds me that I am old......being called ma'am.  I hate when that happens.

This year, I’m suddenly more sensitive to the cold?  I mean fuck, I’m the guy that goes winter backpacking when it’s 0F or colder, I tough it out, and fuck the cold!

Now I’m whining about turning the heat on, or up.  What’s next?  Do I start whining about moving to Florida, a state I actually hate?

I was flirting with an attractive young woman. I’d known her for a couple of years professionally, but we had just sort of a acquaintance type of friendship. But I liked what I saw, and was thinking about hitting on her. Then she said, “I want to introduce you to a friend of mine.  She would be perfect for you, she’s just like my mom.”

That’s when I realized she thought I was just like dad. And not in a fetish sort of way.

I never got ID'd at bars when I was 18 or 19, but I did most of the time when I was 25-30.  The drinking age has always been 18 here, so I never could figure that one out.  My best guess is that had something to do with beards becoming fashionable when I was in my 20s (I've always shaved).

Something that made me feel old was when I realized that the university students I was teaching had not been born yet when I was in their place.  Then again a couple years ago when the Y2K babies started arriving.

It didn't sink in at the time, but when in my late 40s, wife and I went to the movies and the tickets were cheaper than I thought they'd be. Figured it was just a matinee rate, as we'd gone in the afternoon.  When we came out, I looked at the sign on the ticket office and saw we were given the "senior" rate.  Blew it off as just a mistake by the ticket seller.

What hit me between the eyes tho' was eating at the Olive Garden one day.  I like loud colored shirts. (wife says it's the "peacock" in me) This day I had on a Red Hot Chili Peppers shirt. It was black with bright colored stylized Mexican folk art figures. Our waiter, a friendly young man in his 20s said, "Nice shirt." I enjoyed the compliment until as he started to leave, he added, "I wish my dad would wear shirts like that."

Wife laughed the rest of the day.

Well trained and been made compliant....by my cat Neville

Last year, I was across the street visiting with neighbors.  They were having a get together and I saw this good looking guy.  My staring was very apparent as the lady I was chatting with cleared her throat and said that her grandson is a bit too young for me.  He had just graduated from high school before summer.  Guess I have a slight taste for younger.  Even BIG Ben makes me feel old

The first time I injured myself and instead of bouncing back in a day or two like I had always did, it took a good week. Now it takes even longer to bounce back.....

Eating (1) at the Olive Garden in (2) a loud colored shirt pretty much screams “I’m an old guy.”  Same thing for Applebee’s and cafeterias at 4 in the afternoon.

But those breadsticks are good...

The Olive Garden passes itself off as an Italian restaurant.  ;D ;D

-When Metallica started making make-out music

- Metallica baby pajamas in Kohl's. They had little electric chairs on them! I had that Ride the Lightning t-shirt and my mom had a fit when I wore it to school! "omg why would anyone dress like that?"

-Hearing the Ramones in Walgreens. Even when I was a teen they weren't played on the radio! Now my punk rock is classic rock!

First time I heard New Order playing as muzak.  I think I was at the Foot Locker.  Face it, they probably play the Beatles in nursing homes now.

Like the time in an elevator I heard a muzak version of Jethro Tull’s Aqualung.  And that was like 10 years ago.

I tried to do the math, but my head exploded.

I just add 20 for a generation, but it could just as easily be 25 or 30.

If TMacc's great grandchild has a child between ages of 20-25, Tmacc will be 73-78.  If that grandchild has a child between the ages of 20-25, Tmacc will be 93-103 and a Great Great Great Grandaddy.

He said he was a grandfather for the first time at age 28.  So if he had a child at age 14, and that child became a parent at 14, it would be possible.  If his oldest grandchild made him a great grandparent at 53, that grandchild is 25.

My grandmother was a great great grandmother 4 times before she passed.  My cousin was 14 when she had a girl; that girl married young and became a baby factory.  My grandmother also lived to 95.  We never met my cousin’s kid or her kids, long story.
