ZZ Top's Tres Hombres, especially La Grange. I can still recall the exact time and place where I first heard that over the radio.

I used to have the LP of that album, and I also have the CD. Yesterday I found a 24-bit 192kHz remastered version of the album. Have mercy!

Just think of all the money we spent on LPs, cassettes and CDs and the equipment to play them on. But I understand vinyl is making a comeback.

Agreed. So much obsolete equipment to play obsolete formats. It was stupid of me to buy CD versions of my favorite LPs, but I was swayed by the miraculous absence of snap, crackle and pop resulting from groove wear. Add together all the Betamax and VHS and Laserdisc players I've trashed, plus all the media that went with them. If I'd just stuck with vinyl and then jumped straight to streaming audio and video, I'd now be sunning myself on a beach in Barbados.

Not to mention the wonderful artwork on vinyl sleeves that can't be repeated on any other format.  The ones that immediately spring to mind are the zip on Sticky Fingers (Rolling Stones), interchangeable inners and covers on Physical Graffiti (Led Zepellin) and Some Girls (Rolling Stones) and the hours of detection work provided by Sgt. Pepper.

Princess, would you like to see it light up and hum when I wave it about

Half Man Half Biscuit (a UK satirical punk band from the 80s, and still going I believe)

Toad the Wet Sprocket, (a Monthy Python borrowed named American alt rock band from the 80’s, and still going I believe).

Plus all the liner notes on the inside of double albums. Was cool to see musicians from other bands jamming and cutting an album or two.

Add to that Andy Warhol's peeling banana on the Velvet Underground & Nico album.

The Beat Goes On by The Pretty Things from their Balboa Island album (2007).

Way back in 1964
We came a-crashing thro' the door
We had the drugs, the girls, the boys
You couldn’t hear above the noise
Of every screaming little girl
The sound exploded round the world
We all thought it was so new
It wasn’t true
It’s all the same
The beat goes on
Again and again

This is how I remember the band:

Here’s what Franz Ferdinand has to say about that.

Ooh! We’re doing show tunes! Here’s one for our times, from Pins and Needles, the longest running Broadway show before Oklahoma! came along. Sung by the incomparable Barbara Streisand when she was a wee youngster. The song is “Doing the Reactionary.” This whole musical is quite the treasure. Sad that it’s probably more relevant today than when it debuted 90 years ago.

Sitting in my study, my cute little dog sleeping nearby, working like a maniac on my sci-fi Mars colonization story "Founders," and listening to Planetarium:

I also like that video plus all the others that are made under Playing for Change. Great idea and great music by musicians all over the world playing together.

If you like The Weight, may I suggest you search YouTube for Josh Lee Turner. He does another good job with the song, using college students playing different instruments at various locations.
