I feel the same way about my diagnosis and prognosis, and I am only 63. So it’s all good. Life goes on.

I had a couple appointments at the VA today. First thing was a bone scan. Or so I thought. I was injected with a a radioactive solution and sent on my way. I was told the solution had to soak in. Litterly...guess it soaked intoy bones.

Time for lunch now and after that it was off to renal clinic (kidney). For some time my blood tests have shown protein leaking into my kidneys. Guess the last test showed big enough increase to cause some concern. The doc came in and it was short and sweet. He's increased the dosage on one prescription and adding some more.  I go back in a month.

Now back to the bone scan. I thought that would be relatively quick, like a x-ray. Nope. I was expecting just a picture of my left hip bones. That's my newest problem.

Well, turned out they were taking pictures of all my bones. Took an hour of laying on a hard table.as I was directed to move to different positions.

I talked to.the tech when done. The injection I was given earlier in the morning settled in my bones. So nowy bones were emitting.gamma rays. The pictures would glow in areas where there was arthritis or cancer. I should glow like a Christmas tree with both all over my body

The pictures should be read quickly. And I just have to wait for my oncology nurse practitioner to contact me with the results.

Well now my medical people are coming to me with home visits. It's part of my home health care... every other week a nurse stops by to check on me.

Had my first visit today. Went through the usual health questions and a check of my.vitals.

Then we got to my pills of which there are many. I've had my system for many years now. I showed the nurse and we pretty much decided to stay with what I've been doing.

But now instead of me filling my pill box once a week, where I'm dropping pills all over the place, the nurse will do it for me

Grrrrr

Posted before I was done.. My edit button has disappeared to  ???

Anyway the nurse will fill my pills for me. She brought a couple extra pill boxes so I'll have three weeks of pills all staged for me. That's such a relief as my arthritis keeps getting worse and handling little pills has become a challenge. Once the nurse was done I felt a huge relief that one more chore is taken care of for me.

Pills are a major hassle. I only have one pill box. Six tablets in the morning. Five at night. 77 tablets per week. So I woke up this morning, and sat up on the edge of the bed. Pill box was empty. So 77 tablets to count and sort, and I hadn’t even had my coffee yet. LOL.  Getting old sucks.

Some day I'll have to county daily pill count. Of course no sooner than I start they send me a new. Not long after my nurse left the mailman brought me two more. One a new prescription the other a higher dosage. So first dig out the old pill and add the new higher dosage then add the new prescription. :D

(I did find where the nurse missed a couple pills.) :emot_laughing:

I remember some years back, a doctor at the VA told me that the VA loves to dispense drugs. From hearing about your visits and from friends who also use the VA, it seems this doctor was right.

My doctor recently switched my regimen from 500 mg x 2, twice a day to 1000mg x 1, twice a day. So I have prescription bottles with both dosages in them, and I am terrified that I am going to accidentally give myself 2000 mg of this medicine. I don’t think it would kill me, but it would not be pleasant.

Sad to say, but it goes way beyond the VA. The medical field and the pharmaceutical industry seem to enjoy a very close relationship.

They'll have to change that now that there will be budget cuts for veterans. I was shown a letter from a friend that tells of community care and other VA services that were making life better for veterans will be cut. It are not getting the funding it once was, and some of my friends will lose specialists they have been seeing for years, and have to travel hours to the nearest VA hospital. Some, such as Milwaukee, are infamous for being horrible with long waits, and terrible services. This terrible neurologist I had the misfortune of dealing with there is the main reason I just use my private insurance and go to doctors outside the VA.

Sure, start or back wars that involve our soldiers and then cut back on the services that many may need upon returning home. Sounds about right in today's world.

o

It does look like there are budget cuts for the VA (I expect other government agencies too)

Here's a news letter the VA sent out last month.

So for those who don't know or lost track, last December I had a spinal cord stimulator implanted in my back the first part of December last year. It's helped me with the problems I've had walking due to a herniated disc.

A wire runs from the implant to my spinal cord. The electronic signals help train my nerves to react differently.

Then things quit working. The VA did a bunch of tests and X-rays to see what was wrong. Everything seemed OK and the bone cancer hadn't changed much. Finally a nurse I work with a lot said maybe I should contact the support people that made my device. Did that and the lady said, "Oh yes. You haven't had a tune up recently.
Ah Ha! Called for an appointment and got one just a few days away.

That day was today. A nice lady with a British accent stuck her tablet by the implant in my back until the two devices connected. She got busy on her tablet and finally told me to let her know if I felt a tingling sensation. Soon that started in my right leg then went all across my lower back. WHEEEEEE

We chatted a bit and she asked if I was feeling if it was helping. I stood up and stood there without my cane for a bit. Before the tweaking, I wasn't able to stand still without something to hang on to. In just a few minutes I had my balance restored.

So my tune up was a success. Yes, I asked if I could get.a lube job too. A smile and a shake no with her head shut that down quickly.

As I left the building I could feel I wasn't putting as much weight on my cane has I had been. Here's hoping the relief will hold. If not, I won't waste a lot of time before contacting the company again.

Bionic Bob back to full power. Just had to unplug it for 10 seconds and plug it back in. Gotta run a PMCS every morning.

All seriousness though, I'm glad it seems to have been a simple issue with the device, and not you body. Hope this doesn't happen again, and if it does, it just as quick a fix.

Maybe next time with the lube job 😘💋

My dad used to call me all the time with computer/tech questions.    "Just reboot it, daddy".   That usually did the trick. But every now and then I'd have to go to his house to update the app or firmware.  Usually did the trick.

Glad to hear your back to tip top condition, Bobby!
