Originally had this in : What ruined my day.   But I wanted it for it's own subject so the post didn't get buried.

***********

So, I was in a Target store earlier. I said something to Dan.  I noticed a man and wife behind him.  The man's head looked back at me.  Not out of the ordinary because of my voice and language.  A bit later, Dan and I split up.  Me down one aisle, he down another.
Walking down that aisle, I encountered the man from earlier, he was by himself.  He said, "Julie?"  Then after a pause, he said, "MintJulie?"
Being the only one in the aisle, I couldn't ignore him.  I looked at him and he said, "MintJulie, right?" I shook my head trying to keep my composure.  He said, "I know you're from the area by some of your posts."  I just shook my head and looked away.  He said, "I'm sorry if I'm scaring you. I'm not a big participant, but, well, HI."  Then he walked away.

SOOOOOOO, after freaking me out a bit earlier.  If the member that I encountered earlier today happens to read this, you're welcome to PM me and let me know who you are.

That would absolutely freak me out. I just remember the time that Janus figured out where Tiny Dancer lived, and drove down to her house uninvited, and scared the fuck out of her.

I’ve given up way too much personal information about myself over the years. If somebody was absolutely hell-bent on stalking me, they could probably figure out who I am. But fortunately I am now at an age where I really don’t give a shit. Don’t think my non-binary boss is going to care if I post naughty photographs on the Internet either.

As I told Toe, I have a terrible poker face. I could feel my face go red and my eyes widened a bit before looking away. He likely saw I was scared.  And left within seconds.  Or maybe he thought he had the wrong person and didn't give his name.

I told Dan someone asked me if I was MintJulie.  He knew who I was speaking about and calmed me down.  We didn't see the couple again.  I am not fearful for my safety or anything.  It was just in that very moment I was scared sh*tless.  That he walked away from me immediately after saying what he did was a good thing.

As I said, please PM me if you read this.  All is good.  But gawdddd, you scared the sh*t out of me.

Easy to understand why you got scared. It's something we all live with...a lot of personal information gets shared on KB. To his credit at least he saw he'd upset you and beat feet

My fight or flight instincts kicked up a notch and my palms got sweaty just reading this. If this happened to me, I'd probably have a panic attack, and run screaming. I get nervous just letting people know I live in Wisconsin.

Fortunately it didn't go any further than it did, but damn.

I know the feeling. Every tiny piece of personal info you place on the web narrows down the number of potential search hits.

At a rough guess, four or five snippets can be enough to fingerprint you. That's truly scary.

You are just a thought that someone, somewhere, somehow feels you should be here.

You could narrow it down considerably if you wanted to. As each post clearly states, our IP address has been logged, and IP addresses can be used to narrow down geographic locations. I still remember in one of our early conversations when you told me what zip code I live in.

The internet is not as anonymous as we think. Law enforcement can (with a court order) identify specific people individually using nothing more than an IP address.

I almost took this post down.  Because I could stick with the 'Deny Everything' approach if I ever encountered the person again.  But then I thought I'd prefer to know who it is.  It's that whole 'unknowing' feeling that would have bothered me.

Well, the person member sent me a PM.  I responded. We sent a few communications back and forth.  That's it, that's the end of it.  I'm confident that this person will keep my identity a secret, as I will his, because as he says, "My wife would divorce me so fast it would make my head spin."

Just so you that have read and posted here know the outcome.  I'll leave this here for a bit and delete the whole topic.   And no, I won't say who it is.  He's never posted.  He comes on and just looks around.  But he does seem to know quite a bit about the goings on here.

If I'm ever in Wisconsin, I'll start going up to all the hot blondes and asking, " Growler?"  :emot_laughing:

And the next thing that happens is your eyes slowly open to discover paramedics hovering over you as you're laying flat on your back asking you how many fingers they are holding up.   You'll just smile and say, "it was her."

I heard she throws a mean round about kick.

Dan said I should have said 'Round House kick"  not  "Round about"   Big difference.

I'd never heard of "Roundhouse kick" and had to look it up. Yet another thing I learned today.

By coincidence, yesterday evening I was watching a video of Status Quo performing some of their Aquostic numbers at London's Round House. That particular Round House used to be a huge shed in which railway locomotives were spun around on a giant turntable.Front end in, front end out.  :emot_dancing:

My kids all went through a Thomas the Tank Engine phase. And we had a huge lay out with virtually every single item ever made by that franchise. But one of my favorites was the round house. Great way to move the big engines about.

Strangely enough, when we moved from that house, I thought a library, or a doctor’s office, or somebody would want about $1000 worth of Thomas the Tank Engine stuff. No takers. No one wanted it. I gave it all to Goodwill. I hope it found a good home.

And no, I won't say who it is.

All we need to know is that you're okay, mon cherie, and it sounds like you are.
