We have a rule in my house. Dirty undergarments do not go in the washing machine. They go in my pocket. Then, after I have thoroughly enjoyed them, they can be washed and returned to the dresser drawer.

I'm not quite sure how the underwire fits in the pocket. My sports bra can be made to fit, but those nasty little suckers get waseched ever other day.

Just learned my young ( 53 ) daughter has not one, but two tattoos. They're just below her waistband. I saw one peaking out when she here.

I asked what she had and she lowered her shorts down so I could see a tat of a cute tiger cub. On her right side a nice wolf head. She proceeded to tell me the wolf was done a few years ago to cover up a Playboy bunny. :facepalm:

I have been in my kitchen most of the day. I've been baking cherry and raspberry goodies for family, friends ,and neighbors for most of the day. I've only stopped to make me some margaritas and dance to the music pumping through my apartment.

I meet with a nurse , Robin, from palliative care, every two weeks. She's the nurse who also does my Battlefield Acupuncture. That is a bunch of tiny needles in each ear I leave in for three days.


I was to see her this afternoon and then she called this morning. I recognized her voice right away but before I could acknowledge that she said, "Hi this is Robin."

Without thinking, mouth went into gear and I replied,"Hi Babe." :facepalm:

She didn't comment and I was too flustered to try and clean that up. The call was to reschedule tomorrow and we got the new time set. Looks like I need to see about taking my food out of my mouth before she starts sticking needles in my ears.

"Hi Babe" GEEZ!

I was never able to grasp the concept of using a slide rule when I was in high school.  My younger brother used one all the time and could never understand why I didn't get it. (He now has a degree in mathematics.)

I never regretted not learning that particular skill.  Now I wonder if anyone still uses one, or if they've gone the way of the abacus.  😃

I still have one. It was my father’s and is a particularly nice one done in ivory. I haven’t used it in 40 years. They began allowing the use of calculators in the late 70’s. By the time I finished college in 1983, no one used them anymore. None of my children know how.

As a young kid, I remember seeing the big high school guys walking around with their slide rule in a holster on their belts.

I kept thinking when I get big I'll have one too. So cool. 8)
Sadly I turned out to be a poor student and never got near any advanced math class.

I don't recall ever using a slide rule at school. The requirement was to write out all the steps in solving a problem.

I still have an ancient book of log, sine, and cosine tables that I almost wore out with use.

My daughters' school, on the other hand, required all students to purchase a specific model of a Texas Instruments scientific calculator.
 
I guess a lot depends on the education system. I used to pay sick calls to an elderly gentleman who had a very odd preoccupation with the Imperial Japanese Navy. He'd talk about it endlessly, leaving me with a splitting headache. Of the many stories he loved to tell and re-tell was that IJN gunners were trained to do advanced mental mathematics. So advanced that they could mentally calculate shell trajectories. For this reason, he insisted, IJN ships could fire at coastal targets in the middle of the night, whilst American and other ships had to wait until daylight so that they could calculate range with optical instruments.

That didn't make sense to me, and the IJN didn't fare so well in the Pacific War, but I didn't have the heart to challenge him.

What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare.

Dan's two girls were allowed calculators throughout their school years.  Yes, the specific Texas Instruments scientific calculator.

Yet, 30 something years ago, as Hilda says, we were required to "Show Your Work" as the Math teachers liked to say back then.
