I finally got used to not double spacing after a period. I still do it once in a while. Old dog ya know.

I never knew of this until I arrived here at KB.
I try, but I will never get used to it.

It's all going the way of the double space after a period and the oxford comma.

In the days of typesetting (which I'm old enough to remember) compositors had a wide selection of spaces for practical and aesthetic purposes. Hair space, thin space, en space, em space, and so on. You can still generate those spaces using HTML code, but most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference on a computer screen, let alone a smartphone display.

The double-space convention came about with the introduction of typewriters with monospace fonts. All characters and all spaces were the same width, so one space after a full stop looked odd.

Word processors adjust spacing on the fly, as you type, so no need for two spaces.

As for the Oxford comma, I'm a devotee. It removes ambiguity. I'm also a hold-out for the Oxford Z. British English ends verbs formed from nouns and adjectives with -ise. US usage is -ize. If you assume this suffix comes from Greek, 'z' is preferable.

It could be my imagination, but wasn't there an episode of the "Inspector Morse" series in which Morse spots this non-UK usage in a letter or note?

I was never able to grasp the concept of using a slide rule when I was in high school.  My younger brother used one all the time and could never understand why I didn't get it. (He now has a degree in mathematics.)

I never regretted not learning that particular skill.  Now I wonder if anyone still uses one, or if they've gone the way of the abacus.  😃

According to this obituary, Slide Rule died in 1977. He had a good long life, may he rest in peace. 😉

Written by a math major for a creative writing class. He got an A-minus for the effort. 👍

I commented earlier that it was “late 70’s.” Glad to see I wasn’t daft.

My brother won $2300 last weekend on the Texas Alabama game. So I got a Draft Kings account and decided to make some bets. It was late. I was drunk. I have no idea what I bet on, but I guess I will learn the damage on Monday.

Dan loves Draft Kings.   He keeps it in check.  3 games $20 each.  Just to make the games more interesting.   He was able to turn the MSU game off at halftime knowing he was pocketing $20.    What a bad game.

I suffer from "hot flashes". Can hit me several times a day . Must be similar to what women go through during menopause.

It's a side effect of one of my cancer meds. I get a injection of the stuff in my belly every six months by a nurse.

I get hot all over and break out in a sweat. When I ask my wife if it's hot she says no and laughs. She's been done with menopause for years.

It does pass after a few minutes. The one upside is I know the medication is working. And my blood tests confirms it. Small price to pay for extending my life.

Well trained and been made compliant....by my cat Neville

My old editor, who I still remain in touch with, decided on whim to tell me ALL about menopause...

That's going into a future story at some point.

I recently had a potential new client that I was trying to get to sign a contract. Then she started sending me text messages night after hours, and totally failed to respect boundaries. When she began telling me that she hadn’t shit in four days and that her lower back hurt so bad “I can’t push down to get my bowel movement“ that’s when I told her I wasn’t going to be able to be her lawyer, because really, who needs that?

Steering it back to the non sexual theme...

Been doing so well with eating sensibly for the last 2 weeks, then fell off the wagon this evening and had a half large supreme pizza all to myself  :P. The remainder is in the fridge for tomorrow lunch/dinner - but maybe I should throw it in the bin, go for a run in the morning, and fast for the day. Though I hate waste.

Didn't have any beer or wine though, so there's that.

Funny...I always considered pizza a healthy food. You get all four food groups in one dish. You get grains, vegetables, meat and dairy.  :D

I’ve mentioned that my son works for Pizza Hut. So he brings home pizza and wings almost every night. I can’t stand the sight of it.

I like real pizza, from a woodfired stone oven, with real ingredients, and a thin crust. The problem is that Dominos, Pizza Hut, and Papa Johns, just serve crap.

I like a lot on mine.  Dan is a pizza pussy.  And he pussified the girls also.  Pepperoni only.  I mean come on!

And I don't buy one with everything because I'm the only one that will eat it.  I can do leftover pizza, but not for 4 days in a row.

Pepperoni only.  I mean come on!

Chain pizza places use a pork and beef pepperoni. Pepperoni is simply American salami, sliced thinly, usually pork, cured with a fair bit of salt. It is bought wholesale by the truckload from Hormel or Oscar Meyer. It is not Italian.

Authentic Italian pizza typically has, a generous portion of prosciutto, large chunks of mozzarella, a variety of hand-picked herbs and greens such as rosemary, basil, arugula, and capers.

World of difference.

Capers.  Mmmm

I don't know if Einsteins Bagels is national or not, but if so, try their Asiago bagel with cream cheese, lox, and capers.  omg, now I know where I'm sending Dan in the morning.

I spent 30 days in Italy on a training mission while in the Army. I literally rode a bike around on a small house compound. Went to a restaurant nearby and had real pizza. Brick oven and the chef pulled basil off the plants hanging by the window. And the tomatoes came out of the garden 10 feet from wear we sat. The mozzeralla was pulled out of the bowl in its cheese cloth and peeled apart. We were in foothills and looking higher up in the hills were grape orchards everywhere. It was gorgeous.
