Warner Brothers and Sony have grown weary of the business climate of California and will be relocating to Nevada, in or near Las Vegas. Warner Bros is a bigger studio and has a higher volume of film and TV production. Sony, on the other hand, is proposing a larger commercial development with retail and hotels.
State reps are preparing a bill to give subsidies to one or both studios for the relocation. Taxpayers are already weary of this kind of corporate welfate, having shelled out 750 million to relocate the NFL Raiders to Las Vegas.
Nevada already offers 10 million a year in incentives for film production in the state, not much, compared to Arizona, which offers 125 million a year and New Mexico offers 120 million.
The afore mentioned bill is in jeopardy as 380 million has already been doled out to build a baseball stadium for the A's on the Vegas strip. The Nevada legislature meets every two years and is slated to meet again in January.
