Grm

Went into my profile to change the quote in the signature space and the pic that I originally picked out from the selection available when I registered has disappeared. And now I can't find the pics that were available and I tried to download a gif I have saved and cannot do that either. Help.

BBC: Bulletin Board Code is basically really dumbed down HTML.

The code tags are quite similar, BUT, the difference, BBC allows the user of a forum to format the text in their posts, without the security risks that would come from allowing full HTML.

As for the emoticons, yeah, I think we need more as well and I've suggested that to the boss in the past.  ;) :P

:)

No, actually BBC was developed AFTER HTML.

Allowing random people on the Internet to be able to use HTML on a forum is a really bad idea. First off, a bit of malformed code can really mess up the layout of a web page. For a great example, have a look at some My Space pages.  :)

The second problem is, allowing HTML opens up the possibility of a malicious person using HTML to run JavaScripts, seriously disrupt the forum, bypass admin security controls, etc.

You could also allow HTML, but run a HTML filter to screen out malicious code, but SMF and most other bulletin board software, takes the BBC approach instead.

Like I said before, the codes are quite similar. b=bold, i=italics, etc. The only difference is, BBC uses brackets so that the code tags are opened and closed like this [] as opposed to the <> in HTML.

BTW, someone with admin level access can still use full HTML on the forum. They just have to preface the code with the BBC tag
Code: [Select]
[html]

Isn't it because the larger boards that they are under are 'parent' boards? I always assumed, but in this forum you never know...

Why are the sub-sections called "child boards"?

That's just an SMF default description.  They were supposed to have been changed to sub-boards, but it didnt happen.

What do you think GRM?  Would you like the term "Child board" changed to something that doesn't sound so (possibly) pedo?

My problem with the term is that it sounds like where you can send the kids to go post.

How about offspring boards, junior boards or progeny boards? My favorite would be child board (not for children or pedophiles.)

I love that Gia, looks a bit like an old sixties admin with his moustache and coat over his shoulders. I wish I was like him, I'd love to kick an old woman's chair over.
PS he does look  a bit like me then.

Hey, GRM, I haven't been on here for a while but I notice you have 'new' next to a lot of subjects that are older than I am. Please clear it up for me so I don't screw up or anything, okay?

I'm not GRM, but I think I can help clarify things.

The "new" icon appears next to any thread that contains posts you haven't read, regardless of how long ago they were posted.

You can make all of the "new" icons go away by clicking on the top right of the index page, where it says, "show unread posts since last visit" and from there, click the tab on the right hand side that says, "Mark All Messages As Read."

May GOD save me from my friends, I can save myself from my enemies.
