It's in the books, the first PWHL series and the Walker Cup goes to ... Minnesota, the State of Hockey.
Our ladies won it by shutting out Boston 3-0 in Game 5, on Boston's home ice.
Our ladies thought they had it wrapped up here in game four. Minnesota scored what was thought as the winning goal in game 4. Helmets, gloves and sticks were tossed in the air in celebration.
Alas, that final goal was disallowed because the Minnesota player who scored it slipped into the goal hitting the Boston goalie. The Refs disallowed the goal and Boston went on to win the game... after all the equipment was picked up off the ice.
The series moved back to Boston where Minnesota dominated, winning the first Walker Cup. It's a victory for our Minnesota ladies and another step forward for women's sports, having their own hockey league.
Next step, getting nicknames for all the teams. For now they're only known by their local such as Boston or Minnesota. We tend to include the whole state here rather than one city.
