The best thing about being in the middle of nowhere is the darkness at night.  Last night we saw an (the?) aurora.  It was magical. About a 10 minute show.

*Jealous

We had heard someone at Shenandoah mention about the possibility of seeing it that night.  I guess it was across the northern states.  Surprised we witnessed it in northern Virginia.  We were up in the mountains and it was dark and clear.

There is a Lunar eclipse tonight.  I'll be getting up at 4am (ET) to watch it tonight, or should I say tomorrow morning.  Go to

https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/lunar/2022-november-8

Half way down the page will be viewing times in your area.   Low on the Western horizon for Detroit.

Great way to start this election day, with a full moon going through a total eclipse. Somehow, that just seems appropriate.

I had a great view of the Lunar Eclipse with perfectly clear skies.

I drove to 7-11 and got some coffee.  Then went to a local park.  There was one other car that was there. He was taking pictures out of his sun roof.

I also watched the ISS go over..a nice two minute view as it appeared at about 45 degrees in the south and disappeared on the south east horizon behind some pine trees.

Fun morning.

Here is my best picture. Cropped and zoomed as much as possible without distorting too much.

I had some scattered clouds, but was still able to get a nice view of it. As far as pictures go when taking them of the moon, that's a pretty good one MJ.

Very nice shot Jules. And were you using your cell phone. Me I didn't even bother. Skies were cloudy and doubt I could have done much in the city with all the lights around. Glad you saw this event and are able to share it with us

WOO for getting out of a warm bed with Dan to see this. :emot_kiss:

iPhone, yes.  I was on a webpage finding out how to take with iPhone because first 10 were so bad.   Longer exposure and changed another setting.  Thanks.

I didnt bother with pictures as they never turn out, so I just peeked through my cheap little binoculars.

Also, I want to thank you for reminding me of the eclipse. I had completely forgotten about it until I read you post. 💋 Woo!

I was out with a pair of binoculars that I got from Allan. I must have looked like a fool walking around outside looking up with them. Had a little cloud cover so wasn't the easiest to see, and I wasn't exactly wearing a lot of clothes at the time, but I got a couple good glimpses.

It's been very visible with some clear nights in the UK recently. Jupiter simultaneously in view high up in the south west.

Green comet to streak across the sky in 2023 for first time since Stone Age

NASA said that in the Northern Hemisphere, the comet, C/2022 E3, will be visible in the mornings toward the northwest. It will be closest to the sun, approx. 100 million miles, on Jan 12th. It could be so bright that it might be seen with the naked eye, and it will be bright green!  This once in a civilization comet last passed by earth when Neanderthals walked the earth. On Feb 2, it will be closest to earth, about 26 million miles, will move below the horizon, and will be visible in the southern hemisphere.

Predicting the brightness is difficult, so bring binoculars just in case.

Every friggin morning its clouds. Will be sunny and bright at noon, but as soon as I step outside before sunrise... clouds...

Why does nature hate me being able to see astronomical events 😡
