One thing I love about Texas (One of the few) is that even the county roads have a paved shoulder, that's practically a 4th lane (On both sides) and people pull over to let you pass. On the right, on 2 lane highways (Which are more like 4 lanes.) It's just polite, and rather weirdly polite, for the Texas attitude, and the way people drive, pulling immelmanns on the spaghetti interchanges. I hate driving in Tecas, but back when I was traveling by bike/trailer on a recumbent, I basically had a full width bike-lane from city-to-city.
They don't have that in Portland.
